I noticed in todays dj that there were some cases of sexual battery where they were given several years sentence but all of it was suspended. How does that affect the victim? Why aren't harsher sentences imposed?

The victims are the losers all way around. All the perp has to do is have a trial and get a slap on wrist and they are free to do it again. When will our justice system ever learn?

To answer your question JayKay....when some serious crime happens to the Judge's family! But then attorney's would argue that a Judge could not be impartial if the same or similar crime had been committed against his family. I don't know how to fix the legal system we have, but pointing out the serious problems is pretty easy. Everyday, the word "Justice" has a little more value chipped away, and eventually it will mean nothing!

I agree TF. Justice today is who you know and who you are.Everyone hollers victims rights but in truth the criminals have more than the victims.

Jaykay, I asked that very question to the attorney's he told me that overcrowding was the reason for all the suspended sentences. That they have no where to keep these people. Some of the parents are getting court orders so the offender can not be in the same town as their child. But all that does is put extra children at risk.

I agree TF. Justice today is who you know and who you are. and that's the main problem with the "legal system". if you know the right people... you can drive drunk, harrass people, even pull a gun on someone... and have nothing done to you. anyone ever pay attention to what prosecutors make and how much they spend on lavish things? kinda makes me wonder how they afford some things... i dunno... just makes a person wonder where the extra money comes from. i'm sure it has nothing to do with lighter deals handed out.....

Hey zip! Yep it does make you wonder. Policemen who before becoming a law officer live in mobile homes and shortly after able to build big fancy homes. I really don't think law enforcement pays that well. JMO
