Elton John has called for all religion to be banned. All religion, according to Sir Elton, teaches hate against homosexuals and offers no benefit to society.
Don't laugh. Religion is indeed under assault and the "hate speech" tactic being used by the ACLU and NAMBLA and GLADD has worked in places like Canada. It will work here, too, unless Christians stand up to them. The recent election put the democrats back into power and the DNC has repeatedly stood against religion, against freedom of speech, and against capitalism.

Elton John has called for all religion to be banned. All religion, according to Sir Elton, teaches hate against homosexuals and offers no benefit to society. while religion can't be banned (in the united states anyway), i can understand why EJ would say this. many churches want to ban homosexuality, seems like EJ is fighting fire with fire. "we don't want no gays marrying! brokeback mountain, we can't have that gay stuff on the screen! gays adopting? we can't be havin that! OH NOSED!!!!ELVENTY! I MAY CATCH TEH GHEY!!!! RUN FOR YOU'RE LIFES!"

Not all religion teaches hate. I would be in favor of banning those that do teach hate and not tolerance; however, religion banning is such a slippery slope.

Not all religion teaches hate. I would be in favor of banning those that do teach hate and not tolerance; however, religion banning is such a slippery slope. And who would decide what was and was not "hate"? Sir Elton defines the public expression that homosexuality is a sin as "hate". I define the muslim teachings that all non-muslims be hunted down and slaughtered as "hate". NAMBLA might consider opposition to child molestation as "hate". And certainly the ACLU considers any public expression of faith as "hate". Democrats might consider conservative dialog as "hate" while republicans might do likewise with liberal dialog. Why not, instead, simply enforce our laws and prosecute those who act on their hate in a way that harms another person? Should Abdoul go to prison for hating Abraham? No, but if he acts on that hate and kills Abraham he should. All too often we rush to invent new laws that make crime "more criminal" when we really should just enforce what we have on the books.

Rat, your point is exactly why this issue is a slippery slope.

Wouldn't Elton John's calling for the banning of all religion be considered "hate" speech against Christians? ;D

Wouldn't Elton John's calling for the banning of all religion be considered "hate" speech against Christians? ;D I agree R/R, you know its said to say this, butt I seen Elton John in Concert back earily 80's when he still put on a great show. I still love his Earily years of music, and I presonally got away from his music back when he "Came out of the Closet". Nothing against Gay's, his music changed. And so did mine, oh well what a loss.

Yeah DS. I said that to demonstrate how crazy all of these proposed "laws" are. To give "protection" to some, the rights of others will be infringed also. You cannot infringe on some people's rights to give others rights. Sheesh! What happened to just ignoring folks when they make hurtful and ignorant statements? That's the old fashion way and everybody just worked it out between themselves, even if it meant the parting of ways.
I will give a hint of how old I am. I grew up in Elton John's heyday. I listened to his music. I had a suspicion he was gay before he "came out". My favorite song at the time was "Yellow Brick Road", "Bennie and the Jets" (and I never touched them either, just liked the song). Like you, I stopped listening to his music because I developed a taste for a different type of music.

I love Elton John's music and think he is one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time. I haven't stopped listening to him just because he is gay and I'll still listen even though he has call for religion to be banned.
But, maybe I'll show my ignorance here, but what is "Bennie and the Jets"? I know the song but I've always thought it was about some rock group or something. Your comment, rutrow, makes me think it is something else (drugs?). I've never done drugs of any kind so I don't know much about them.
As for DS asking about Elton's comments being "hate speech" against christians: No, DS, it is not and I'll tell you why: Liberals control what is and isn't "hate speech" - they own it - and there is no such thing as hate speech against christians. Any vile thing you can say about a conservative or a republican or a christian is simply the truth.

King rat, Although I could not find any evidence of truth in the lyrics of the song bennie and the jets, I was told that the song was referring to drugs, bennies being downers, jets being uppers. I made the previous statement merely as a disclaimer, in case anybody had heard this same thing. I thought the musical portion was wierd and hardly ever listened to the lyrics. I liked wierd music also way back then.
But my overall favorites of Elton John's music was: (drumroll) 5. Bennie and the Jets 4. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road 3. Daniel 2. Your Song 1. Philadelphia Freedom
Yep Philadelpha Freedom is my absolute fav!

While I love "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", and "Daniel", I never cared for the others on your fav list. I also liked "Rocketman" a little. There are so many Elton songs that are great that it's impossible for me to have a favorite. But, then I have never been able to define a single "favorite" in anything. I don't have a favorite color, song, singer, food, etc... I've always figured if you define a favorite then you lock out so many other great things. (My shot at being philosophical). But I never even had a notion that "Bennie and the Jets" was about anything but a band. Naive? Probably, but I DID figure out what ZZ Top's "Pearl Necklace" meant!
