Has anyone been to Northstar? It is on Highway 45 across from FMC beside Pennington. They had their first service on Easter Sunday. We have been attending since they started and we love it! It is basically Baptist, but with a contemparary twist. I love it. The music is awesome. The praise band "Three Days Journey" is really hip. There is lots of movement and excitement. They use a lot of multimedia and skit performances in the service which helps one relate to our world today. If you have tried it, plz let me know your thoughts on it, and if you haven't, please consider being my guest some Sunday. I will treat you to coffee and donuts before service. Oh yeah, you can read all about us at www.thenorthstarchurch.com and also hear the band there. Check it out.

My husband attended and he somewhat enjoyed it but said that it wasn't his "thing".
I've given up on attending church myself...I have not found one that I agree with...

welcome to tupeloforums missfairy. I have heard that statement a lot lately. Evidently you are not alone. Does that mean that our churches are failing the people or are the people failing our churches. I have always heard that you get out of church what you put into it, and if you put nothing into it, you will get nothing in return. It's an interesting thought to ponder anyway.
I can understand that northstar is not for everyone. A lot of people don't like the contemporary style of loud music. That is understandable. I like the preaching too. Bro. Terry preaches in a "today" style that I can understand and not over my head. He mixes a little humor in with seriousness. It's a place where you can be "comfortable." If you wear jeans and flip-flops you won't be alone, or if you wear a dress you won't be alone. You can just be you and enjoy. Another thing I like is the church is getting involved in community activities. At the Gum Tree Run, they ran a water station and handed out water to the runners. At the picnic in the park on July 4th they had a baby changing station set up. It was a big tent where parents could have some privacy to change or feed children, or let them get cool. It was also the ck point for lost children. Little goodies were given out to all the children who came through the station. I expect you will see a lot more coming from Northstar in the months to come.
There is a big concert coming up Sun. July 16th at Bancorp Center featuring the Northstar Praise Band, Three Days Journey opening for Shane & Shane, Todd Agnew, and Jeremy Camp.

It's not that I do not have something to give a church. I believe it is that being "different", especially in the south, is not accepted on a widespread basis, much less in church. I have lots of gay friends and rather alternative beliefs. Even the people boasting "open-mindedness", still manage to snub you if you can't insert your beliefs on a dotted line.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this is true of every church or even their intent. It's not the church I guess I have a problem with, it's the people who take it upon themselves to judge others.

Sounds like MissFairy and I have a lot in common. I believe, I pray... but I haven't been able to find a place where I feel welcomed. People at Church A won't like my tattoos. People at Church B won't like my long hair. Church C it's my goatee.... It just seems to me like people always find something to not like about me and feel the need to make comments about it... or stare... or whatever.
I've given up on organized religeon. I'll keep my beliefs private and to myself. Besides... isn't faith supposed to be a personal thing?

I've given up on organized religion as well. (unless one magically forms that fits the proper criteria) People don't understand that my studying/believing in several different religions does not mean that I'm worshipping several different gods. I can take bits and pieces from say Buddhism and Christianity and maybe a little from paganism and it's still the same God, just different ways of worshipping and different philosophies on the subject. Even some of my friends think that my beliefs are very contradictory. Not if you follow the very basics- The Golden Rule applies in all religions in some form! And that very rule encompasses everything else really. *shrug* Just my opinion. Makes perfect sense to me. Also have the problems with tattoos/piercings and being noticed (and not in a good way!)
