I was just going through the daily journal forums...

Is it just me or does everyone there think that Tupelo is run by crooked Nazis? I mean, sheesh... just about everything I read was negative and accusing the 'powers that be' of being shady, despicable people. I understand that with any goverment there's always 'bad apples'... but c'mon. They were accusing the Tupelo Police Department of coverups. Said that the DJ was in the pockets of goverment leaders.

I've lived here for almost three years now... is it possible I've just not seen all this or is it just some people looking for something to complain about? In my opinion, of the four places I've lived, this is by far my favorite. I've not had any problems with local goverment from what little interaction I've had with them.

My wife is used to small town newspapers where they are full of feel good fluff articles and the North MS version of the Daily Urinal. She was looking forward to hard hitting journalism when she moved to the booming metropolitan area of Tupelo...

She opened up her first "real" copy of the Urinal to find it full of feel good fluff articles. One of the big things she noticed was how much they promoted NMMC, giving them at least a page and a half devoted to apologies to the public and blowing their own horns about employees advancing in the company.

She also noticed that they had more articles about Starkville and MSU more than than Tupelo and the surrounding areas sometimes..

I didn't notice it because that's the way it's been all my life. The Daily Journal is made up of nothing but Associated Press feeds, company awards, ads, and feel good fluff from Phyliss Harper types.

I guess they know not to bite the hand that feeds them and they sort of forgot about that thing about freedom for the press...

I have lived in Tupelo all my life. I have been so naive about what goes on behind closed doors here. The DJ does ZERO investigative Journalism because all the fat cats in this town are connected with one another and the JOURNAL.

I have looking at that thread over at the Djournal. It had over 5600 viewings and about 170 posts. It was pulled this weekend after concrete proof of taxpayer waste was posted. The powers that be got very nervous and called in the dogs to have it pulled. I wasn't surprised that this happened, but annoyed that they actually did it.

I like Bobby Pepper, he's the forum administrator over there, but he works for the Djournal. According to him most of the people there do not like the forum and want to get rid of it. That would be a good thing as you obviously cannot give your opinion or post information without threat of it being deleted following the rules as set forth by DJournal.com

Many of the things posted in that thread were absolute gospel, but the general public does not know about it and the MAN does not want them to know about it. We need an independant news source that will do some investigating into the BS being perpetrated by our City Fathers. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

I'm very curious about that myself. I kept going deeper and deeper into the forums but couldn't find anything. Just out of curiosity would you be able to give a little more info on this scandal? I don't need specifics or exact quotes or anything... just a general synopsis would be great.

I'm curious as to the concrete proof of wasted taxpayer dollars. I had been following the thread, but not terribly closely, and then when I logged on yesterday, it was completely gone. What exactly was the catalyst for zapping it?

Proof was posted about Reserve officers ordered to police the Mall at Barnes Crossing. Much information and names were given to check out the facts. I believe that was why it was pulled. It was pretty damaging information. If correct, tens of thousands of dollars has been wasted because the Mall won't pay for it's own security and is using Taxpayer's dollars to substitute. It's icky stuff.

The bottom line is this.....

The wool has been pulled over the eyes of the public and the public has just learned to accept it and move on. We (Middle and Low income taxpayers) are footing the bill on waaaaay to many debacles and non essential items and ideas.

The whole Mall thing is just a pebble in the shoe of Goliath. And when it's finally put out in public...what happens... Hitler sends out his SS to strike out any dissenting voices through it's daily manifesto, The Daily Journal.

I know I'm overdramatizing this a bit, but it really pisses me off that the proof is out there and no one wants to call them on it and then then it's wiped away like it never happened.

A friend of mine said I should run for office if I wanted to effect change. I told him, I can't. I get too emotional about the way things are, but I am privy to some information and I intend to exploit it when and where I can.

For years I have heard about the backroom deals, Danny Barrows this.... Ed Neely that.... Proof is what was called for, and I provided it. It's time to move onto something bigger, and once I have undeniable proof that this particular thing has happened/is happening, I will post it here, the Journal, and elsewhere. If I can get audio, I will put it out there, I might get video, and I WILL DEFINITELY post that as well.

I sound like a kook, and maybe I am. But now, I'm a pissed off kook and I am looking to settle this score the only way these people will listen. I would enlist others to help me break down the good ol boy political barriers that are hindering Tupelo from becoming The All America City in THIS REALITY, and not some overly fluffed media moment catered by the boys runnin the show.

The more people willing to get involved the better. Details coming soon.

I know this issue has set off some serious warning bells amongst a lot of people. I am not removing threads related to this issue, you can have free open, discussion as long as you follow the FORUM RULES. Read them before you begin a tirade here, please...thank you. Libelous and Slanderous remarks will quickly get you a warning, and those remarks will be edited...period. So be careful if you name, names, and have your facts in order.

TFAdmin, I think Mr. Pepper is just done with it. I don't know what all of his responsibilities are at the Journal, but I think he's being held responsible for the bad behavior of certain posters, as though he's supposed to monitor the forums 24/7 and catch every little thing that floats in on the wind.

I feel sorry for the guy.
