Mispronunciation. This is rampant in the south I've noticed. It's oil. Not 'oal'. Fire. Not 'fir.' This one I've pretty much learned to live with since I'm pernamently in the south but sometimes it makes me twitch. The one that still gets me the most is 'warsh' instead of 'wash'. Or Warshateria'. I am constantly trying to teach my daughter that she has "fingers" and not "fangers". Several years ago I worked at Cooper "Tire" though one of my co-workers worked at Cooper "Tar". But it ain't just no southern thang. Ever listen to people talk with a New England accent? They don't have an "idea", they have an "idear". Listen to John Kerry and Teddy Kennedy sometimes.

...and who refuses to use public restrooms because of other people who can't aim. This is comforting. Sort of. Ha ha ha ha. By the time I get through 'preparing the toilet' for useage, I could have just made it home. Some of the cleanest places to use the public restroom is Hobby Lobby, Scruggs, Home Depot. The worse is wally world on North Gloster. UGH!

I will agree about the use of an r in the wrong place, but I have NEVER heard someone say "fir" for fire. In this area, fire and tire rhyme. To echo Rat, people with a Boston accent put more r's in words too. It is not just a Southern thing.

What about the people that will not change lanes to allow cars from an on ramp to merge into traffic without having to come to a complete stop. MOVE OVER if you can!!!
Also, what about when you drive thru a bank and the tellers are not paying attention to you but talking and laughing about something instead of moving a little faster. This happens after you have sat in the line for 20 minutes just to get up to the window. Then you could also get the teller that is overly enjoying her gum! You can almost hear the sound through the window her mouth is open so wide chomping!!

speaking of not moving over...let me run this scenerio by you for opinions on who was right or wrong, or an unavoidable event.
Car 1 was traveling north on the bypass and came upon an off ramp with an exiting vehicle approaching down the ramp (car 2.) car 1 slowed to allow car 2 to come off the ramp because the outside lane had 2 18-wheelers coming up blocking the outside lane. When car 1 slowed to allow car 2 to come into the highway, car 2 slowed to an almost stop at the end of the ramp so car 1 sped up to get ahead of it...as car 1 got to the ramp car 2 decided to bolt out in front to beat car 1...causing car 1 to quickly slow to allow car 1 in. A van (car 3) also traveling north on bypass hit car 1 in the rear as it slowed slamming it into car 2 coming off the ramp.
Who is at fault? Who should have been ticketed?

As bad as I hate to say it but probably car 3, for following too close. Actually, it sounds like car 2 shouldn't have bolted out but I'm sure poor car 3 was the one that would get blame.

I agree with busyx3. My understanding is that if you hit someone in the rear it is almost always your fault. A few years ago a co-worker was traveling on hwy 6 following two cars. Two other cars were behind him. The lead car suddenly slammed on its brakes and turned left into the parking lot of a store without giving a turn signal. Car #2 locked it up and slid to a stop. Car 3 (my co-worker) started sliding and hit car #2. Cars #4 & 5 each hit the cars in front of them. Car #1 was not hit. Witnesses at the store told the officer that car #1 slammed on its brakes. The driver of car #2 told the officer that car #1 did not give a turn signal and that she (#2) had to lock her brakes to avoid him. The drivers of cars #3, 4 & 5 each had to pay for the cars they hit (from behind). The bum who caused the accident paid nothing.

would it make any difference in your opinion if I told you car #1 was a 16 year old girl, car #2 on the ramp was a police officer in a dare vehicle and car #3 a wealthy elderly lady in a cadillac?

Wait a sec, granny. I thought you said car #3 was a van. Has Cadillac started making vans now?
Regardless of who was driving what, car #3 gets the ticket. He hit another car from behind (following too closely, as busyx3 and King Rat pointed out). If not for that, cars #1 and 2 would've been fine.
Just out of curiosity, was this that awful place on 78 where you turn off to go to the mall? That has to be the worst-designed place ever...

Thought of another one-
I *HATE* it when I just get through cleaning something and someone comes right along and messes it up with no apologies, no clean-ups, or even an acknowledgement that you had JUST cleaned it.

Does not change my mind. Hate it for car 3 but it is still their fault!

That is what one would think. Actually car #1 was ticketed for failure to yield. In court the officer was asked "what alternative did car #1 have" and he stupidly answered......she could have left the road to avoid being hit and not hitting car #2!!!!!!
It was my daughter a couple of years ago, but what the stupid highway patrol didn't know was her mom worked for an atty and was willing and mad enough to fight till the end! We eventually won, but not after a year of worry, lots of money and 3 court appearances.
To make matters worse she hit her head on the windshield and the officer offered her no assistance. He wouldn't wait for me to get there to drive her, or get her medical attention.
