Death by hanging. Good for Iraq. Maybe after Saddam is gone the Iraqi people will realize he is never coming back to power.
But the European Union denounced the sentence and is calling on Iraq to let the former dictator live. Even mass murder, to the EU, doesn't warrant a death sentence. Perhaps they think they can rehabilitate him.
Here at home the NYT and the Post don't think hanging Saddam is such a good idea, either. The NYT went so far as to call on Iraq to postpone the sentence and give Saddam a second trial. They called the trial an "overreach" by President Bush (they disrespectfully called him George).
Democrat leaders have been agreeing with the sentence, for the most part, but minimizing the importance of it when it comes to our involvement in Iraq.
Personally, I think it is a good thing and it should be televised on Iraqi television.
