according to the statement below in the article, I would have to lean towards Yes, it should be removed, because it is the law. I lived in Gautier right before Katrina, and it's a very nice little town, a place where you didn't have to worry about taking your children shopping with you. If someone wants to buy that kind of stuff, that's one thing and their own doings, but to have it displayed where children see it and have assess to it is totally another thing. There is a time and place for everything, and not in the public eye where children run up and down the mall.
"The state law cited by the customer to police, 97-5-29, makes it illegal to display sexually oriented materials or make them available to minors. It is a misdemeanor punishable by a $5,000 fine, or a year in jail, or both if convicted. The law lists a number of things that qualify as sexually oriented material, including representations or depictions of bodily functions and female breasts."

First of all, bookstores should have to abide by the law. Outside that, I think capitalism should be allowed to work. If enough people complain then the manager will likely remove the book to prevent losing customers.
Personally, except for pr0nographic materials and books that cause a real threat to society (such as how to build a bomb, etc) I don't agree with book banning or with one person forcing their reading preferences onto another.

In my opinion, the woman was correct in not wanting teenagers or younger to see this sexually explicit material. What ever happened to the back room displays or the adult corner?

Abide by the law...yes, pull entire sections...NO! I agree with keeping sexually explicit material away from children, but I'd like todirect my point at the parent's.....
The mall, or bookstore, or arcade, or whatever, is not a baby sitting service. There is nothing wrong with a parent being involved with their child, whether it be while surfing the internet, or going shopping, or watching TV. My boys do not have a TV in their room, nor a computer. They use the computer in the family room where they can also watch TV and play XbOX 360. My oldest asked for a computer in his room, I flatly said no, not till college.
My youngest asked Santa Claus for a TV and DVD player for his room. Santa brought him a new Bicycle, and a mini-4 wheeler. TV has never been brought up again! ASE

I enjoy taking my children to the bookstore. Because they are children I don't let them run and romp at will down the aisles. But I would have a big problem with them seeing pr0no material displayed on a shelf as we were walking around. Once they see it there's no taking it back.
Now if they want to have a secured "adults-only" section then I have no problem with that. But it is THEIR responsibility to make sure teens don't go in there.
