www.wtva.comTupelo police have been hoping that one day they would be in a new home. Now, that may happen sooner rather than later. City leaders have begun the search for an architect to design a new police headquarters that would replace the three buildings currently being used. The architect will also give the city an idea how much the new facility will cost. The mayor says the new headquarters will be built at the city's compost site on Front Street. He expects construction to begin next year. My question is, has the police station not gotten a new home in the last few years? Why do they need another one?

The PD has never had a "NEW" home in at least 10 years, and I'm sure it is more than that. They currently work out of 2 buildings, one on Front St (The Old City Jail) and one on Court Street (Next to Water and Light Collections). They desperately need a consolidated home. Having it next to the SO is pretty cool.
The article in the paper said the Mayor/Council was going to ask the County to help pay for it. I find that rather amusing as the County cannot even afford to fix the 911 radio system at Lee Communications.

When the Taj Mahal, otherwise known as City Hall, was in the planning stages, there was a whole wing dedicated to the PD. Of course, when the cost projections came in, guess who got cut out of the building? And then there was the whole Downtown Post Office fiasco.....

I must have slept through all that, I don't remember all that, but seems like I remember a merger between SO and TPD where they all share the same bdg. I didn't think anyone was held at the old bdgs
