Our superintendant in Itawamba schools has decided that now we can't sign a form that we don't want our children to have corporal punishment. He wants it to be at the descretion of the principal. It seems to me the teachers and principals think they have more rights than the parents. I know of several children that have been paddled and bruises left on them. To me this is abuse. If we as parents can go to jail for it so should they.

You try hitting your child with a board (even the same board teachers use) and see what happens to you! I agree it is abuse and the law should step in and stop it. This issue has always been a thorn in my side, and I would be shouting to the rooftops at every parent gathering I could get to and let them know NO ONE is going to be hitting my child with a board.

amen G2Y. I don't hit my kids with boards and will not allow anyone else to either. How do they feel they have more rights than parents? It just gripes the heck out of me. And if my child misbehaves at school they know what they will get. Parents should be the ones to guide their children not the teachers.

I totally agree. I understand they have to maintain some form of control, and I respect that, but hitting a child (especially if it is illegal for me to do it) is not the way to gain that control. If a teacher feels the need to hit a child with a board they are most definitely in the wrong profession.

I would go to a lawyer if my child was in that school system. I am the PARENT I gave birth to these kids or adopted them one and I would not let them strike my kids with a board. IF and WHEN they need punished call me I bet I do a better job than they can. Also I would complain to the school board and everyone else. Plus I'd make them put it in writing that they had the right to hit my child without my premission and I'd sue the person who did it. You can not go over the parents heads and strike a child. I have a little girl who was abused when she was small and they do not know the kind of damage they can do to a kid like that. And if all else failed I'd either move or homeschool. And if I had to do either I'd write a diary of every week and send it to the local papers under letter to the editor. Everyone would know I felt wronged.

This system over here with our superintendant is what he says goes. He has even told some parents if they didn't like things he has done to take their kids out of "his" county schools. The Good Ole Boy system is alive and well in Itawamba county.I've already told them they are not to spank mine without calling me.I have the right to decide what is right for MY child.

very good, and I would even follow that up with a written note in each of my child's folders saying they do not have permission to paddle my child without me being present and make them put it in the file. ALso, let them know if they go against your wishes you will sue. He cannot threaten you to take kids out of HIS school. It is the country's school, not his. You can be expelled, but public school is a right that each child has access to.

I'd tell them to bring their lunch because to whip my child after I said no would be an all day job! And I would remove my child after I recorded the conversation with that superintendant.

I wish you ladies had been my mom when I was growing up! ;D Just kidding! I love my mom, but when I was in school, what the teacher said (or did) was gospel! I came home many times with my backside bruised. most of the time I did deserve a whipping though but not ALL the time. I got more when I was a teenager because we had a PERVERT for a teacher and I was just too green to realize at the time what he was doing. He would let the other students paddle us while he watched! Now, I'm old enough to know that was PERVERSION!

that is definitely one screwed up guy that should not be around children. I am surprised that parents didn't tar and feather him for letting another child hit their child. I know I would have.
