I guess students should be given school issued styrofoam hands and feet and furniture should be bolted to the floor so they can't use them as weapons. The kids that carry weapons carry them in their backpacks and keep them in their lockers instead of carrying them around. If they are inclined to use weapons in a fight, they'll think up plenty of ways to conceal them in their uniforms.
Remember, convicts wear uniforms in prison and that doesn't do anything to stop the violence there.
Too people over analyze things and put ideas in kid's heads in the process, things that kids would have never thought of. My wife told me that not many kids did drugs at her private school until the D.A.R.E. program was introduced, ignorance is bliss. The kids started to find out what the different drugs would do, so they tried them out of curiosity to see what the fuss was about.
I got stabbed by pencils three different times at school. We carried knives in high school for shop class so we could cut open boxes and stuff without looking for scissors, a lot of the shop kids got into fights and the knives stayed in their pockets. Older kids were allowed to make sheath knives and baseball bats in shop class, they didn't use them in fights, they used their fists. It wouldn't have mattered if they were in uniforms or not, they would still beat the crap out of somebody if they were bullied or insulted.
If a school has problems with violence, they have bigger problems that won't be solved by uniforms.
