Supposedly, Ezekiel wrote his Words from God about 587BC, as a prisoner in Babylon ( modern Iraq). Though Israel was already being severely punished for their disobedience, Ezekiel as well as the other OT prophets tell of much punishment to come as Israel is made an object of hatred in all of the nations of the Earth that the Lord God is going to scatter them to. But God always promised that once the punishment was complete, he would bring them back and reestablish them in their land, the same land God had promised FOREEVER to the descendants of Abraham. After 1948 years of roaming through the nations, WW11 and Hitler- the nation was reborn. Three years after the fall of Nazi Germany. On the day, actually, that God promised.
The mind boggling odds against the rebirth of the ancient nation of Israel after 2000 years of nonexistence should have made it truly impossible. And it was except for the will of God and His Word. The following amazing prohecy talks about Israel in the last days. It is one of dozens of similar, and equally amazing, prophecies by God about Israel. Remember, even Paul said about Israel: "I say then, they did not stumble so as to fall, did they? May it never be! But by their transgression salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make them jealous. " (Romans 11:11) and "For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this mystery—so that you will not be wise in your own estimation—that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in; and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written, “The Deliverer will come from Zion, He will remove ungodliness from Jacob.” “This is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins.” From the standpoint of the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but from the standpoint of God’s choice they are beloved for the sake of the fathers; " (Romans 11:25-28, NASB95)

Ezekiel's prophecy about Israel and her enemies from the far north. "It shall come about in the last days", and we and Israel shall know the He is the Lord!:
"“Son of man, set your face toward Gog of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal. “I will turn you about and put hooks into your jaws, and I will bring you out, and all your army, horses and horsemen, all of them splendidly attired, a great company with buckler and shield, all of them wielding swords; Persia, Ethiopia and Put with them, all of them with shield and helmet; Gomer with all its troops; Beth-togarmah from the remote parts of the north with all its troops—many peoples with you. “Be prepared, and prepare yourself, you and all your companies that are assembled about you, and be a guard for them. “After many days you will be summoned; in the latter years you will come into the land that is restored from the sword, whose inhabitants have been gathered from many nations to the mountains of Israel which had been a continual waste; but its people were brought out from the nations, and they are living securely, all of them. " (Ezekiel 38:2-8, NASB95)
"“You will come from your place out of the remote parts of the north, you and many peoples with you, all of them riding on horses, a great assembly and a mighty army; and you will come up against My people Israel like a cloud to cover the land. It shall come about in the last days that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me when I am sanctified through you before their eyes, O Gog.” " (Ezekiel 38:15-16, NASB95)
"“And you, son of man, prophesy against Gog and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal; and I will turn you around, drive you on, take you up from the remotest parts of the north and bring you against the mountains of Israel. " (Ezekiel 39:1-2, NASB95)
"“My holy name I will make known in the midst of My people Israel; and I will not let My holy name be profaned anymore. And the nations will know that I am the Lord, the Holy One in Israel. “Behold, it is coming and it shall be done,” declares the Lord God. “That is the day of which I have spoken. " (Ezekiel 39:7-8, NASB95)
"“And I will set My glory among the nations; and all the nations will see My judgment which I have executed and My hand which I have laid on them. “And the house of Israel will know that I am the Lord their God from that day onward. “The nations will know that the house of Israel went into exile for their iniquity because they acted treacherously against Me, and I hid My face from them; so I gave them into the hand of their adversaries, and all of them fell by the sword. “According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions I dealt with them, and I hid My face from them.” ’ ” Therefore thus says the Lord God, “Now I will restore the fortunes of Jacob and have mercy on the whole house of Israel; and I will be jealous for My holy name. “They will forget their disgrace and all their treachery which they perpetrated against Me, when they live securely on their own land with no one to make them afraid. “When I bring them back from the peoples and gather them from the lands of their enemies, then I shall be sanctified through them in the sight of the many nations. “Then they will know that I am the Lord their God because I made them go into exile among the nations, and then gathered them again to their own land; and I will leave none of them there any longer. “I will not hide My face from them any longer, for I will have poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel,” declares the Lord God." (Ezekiel 39:21-29, NASB95)
Don't you ever wonder about people reading there Bibles in 800AD, or 1700AD, or 1900AD? What did they think as they read these passages ? What could they have concluded from all of these promises to an ancient nation that had not existed for 400, 800, 1200 and finally for 1900 years? Who ever heard of such a thing? Has an ancient nation ever come to exist again, populated by the same nationality, in the same land, after even a couple of hundred years? But God promised in the above that He would "restore the fortunes of Jacob and have mercy on the whole house of Israel;" And now we have the modern sovereign nation of Israel to consider as we read these scriptures! It is so amazing! All praise and glory be to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!
And I used to wonder about why this nation from the “remotest parts of the north“, ROSH, ( Russia?) would want to invade Israel. But now so many of the old USSR territories are Islamic, of the type that attacked the school house in Russia recently. You can count on it that they are full of hatred for Israel. It will be interesting to watch and see how all of this plays out in the coming years. So far, it has all worked out just as God promised.
