Every where you go you see signs that say either Merry Christmas or Merry XMAS, Which is correct. Alot of people say that the letter X should not be used as a substitute for Christ as it is an insult to our lord. However it really is not an insult. I did alittle research on this subject and came to the following conculsion.
XMAS has ancient origins. The letter X in Greek, The original language of the New Testament, is the first letter of the word Xristos, which Translated into English is the word Christ. So X is simply an abbreviation for the word Christ. The letters mas are ans abbreviation of the word Mass. Therefore, XMAS really means Christ mass or Christ worship.
Just thought I'd pass this to you so as not to get you upset when you see XMAS in this year of political correctness on everything

That is interesting to know BMJ. I have personally boycotted any stores displaying Xmas. Makes me feel better about the true origin.

You're right, but that is NOT why people are using it. It is simply to wipe out the word CHRIST in any form or fashion within our culture. We celebrate Christmas, and I have no problem with Hannukah, or any other religious celebration in this country, but this is a purely political attack on a religion. Plain and simple. This is what you get when you commercialize a religous celebration.
