Strong, scary, article.
We would have plenty of volunteers if the people of America thought we were really under duress. The War in Iraq has too many similarities to Viet Nam. Too many people think it is just a political war. After 9/11 and through the Afghanistan War, people were signing up in droves to go after the nuts that attacked our country.
Now, we can't sign up enough volunteers, we can't keep current soldiers enlisted, and retired soldiers are refusing to show up for duty. Why? Because America does not believe in this war.
Before we send troops into a country, I believe at least 80% of America needs to agree with it. We had that kind of support for Afghanistan, even on a world stage. Bush has not done a good job making Americans believe the Iraqi invasion was necessary

hmm last study I saw more American's were on board and agreed in the Iraqi war than not. I will do a little more digging and see if those figures have changed.

Not only that, there are many AWOL, refusing to go back to Iraq, of which they consider to be a H*ll hole. I have read where an enlisted soldier home on leave actually committed suicide because he said he would not go back. What is going on over there that the mainstream media isn't talking about?

hmm last study I saw more American's were on board and agreed in the Iraqi war than not. I will do a little more digging and see if those figures have changed. Here is a link with all of the latest polls: www.pollingreport.com/iraq.htmI would say it is evenly split, if you look at all of the polls combined. IMO, 50% is not good enough to lead a country into war. You must have the backing of the whole country. I was looking at a USA Today article from November 2004, and the National Guard is almost 30% off of their recruiting goal FY 2005. A military professor from Maryland said, "The sky may not be falling, but it sure is tilting." The Orlando Sun Sentinel says that national guard recruiting in January was only 56% of goal. And, the army recruiting is "painful". The marines missed target for the first time in a long time. Navy and Air Force are the only ones meeting goal (I wonder why?). Here's the link: www.sun-sentinel.com/news/nationworld/chi-0502030287feb03,0,6100554.story?coll=sfla-newsnation-front According to TIME magazine, AWOL's are down. However, they aren't counting the people they called back to duty. They think they can still talk them into joining. Even though a third of them have not reported to duty in a year! Cooking the books is what that is called. Now, just for the fun of it you can check out British polls on the War in Afghanistan: www.mori.com/polls/2001/ms011104.shtmlThose numbers are pretty high, and they weren't even the ones attacked. Its because we had a clear reason for smacking the Taliban and Al-Qaida.

Every able bodied American male should spend 2 years in the service as soon as he completes high school or reaches age 18 and has dropped out.
If mamma can't handle it TOO BAD.
