How many here have been keeping up with the Tookie Williams story? Tookie Williams is a former gang member sentenced to die on December 13th for the murder of an entire family. Since his imprisonment, he has written a children's book and was even nominated for the Nobel prize He says that he doesn't deserve to die because he wrote a children's book....What do you think about that?

I have been keeping up with Tookie Williams lately. I think he is the perfect example of "rehabilitation." What the judicial system should lean towards instead of locking up folks with no help and no hope. This mentality that one mistake and your out is crud. Granted there are some who cannot or will not be rehabilitated, but I think it is up to society to try. This guy, among others, could prove to be a very productive member of society one day, despite their horrid and scarred past, especially ones like Tookie, mistakes made as a kid. The way I understand his story he did not actually kill anyone. He was not the trigger man. He was accused of master-minding it. Now, you tell me how a teenager has that kind of mind control over another individual to make him kill? Another question is: How many mistakes did we make as a teen, granted they may not have resulted in loss of life, but some were pretty stupid and dangerous. Should those mistakes costs us our life?
I don't think the death penalty and killing Tookie will bring back the victims. I don't even think it will make the victim's family feel any better. They have been quoted as saying that vegence was not theirs to give. Amen to that. Vegence does not belong to man; guilty or innocent, it's simply not ours to dish out.

No, the good he brings now will not bring the folks back to life, but neither will killing him either. He has kept many kids from joining gangs and is a mentor to many. I also believe you do the crime, you do the time, but we should not be given a license to kill anyone, under any circumstances. That is murder; just legal. Besides, there is no proof that this man killed anyone. He told a group a kids to kill someone and they done it. Should his life be taken because of the foolishness of others? I think not. Even if he was the trigger man and killed them, it is still wrong for man to kill him just to satisfy their vegence. It won't serve any purpose and will not bring the victims back; so therefore nothing is acomplished.

Looks like Tookie is loosing his battle. How do they put people to death in CA? BTW, I saw where he WAS the trigger man behind 4 of the murders. He shot a young Marine in the back twice and then later made jokes about the sounds the young man made while he was dying.
