My wife and I saw Batman Begins this past Friday.

We went to The Movie Reel in New Albany. Why? Because we loathe Cinemark at the Mall at Barnes Crossing. The sound system...sucks. The projectors (Do they even change the bulbs in their projectors?)...suck. The seating.....sucks.

I'll admit, the last time I went to see a movie there was "28 Days Later". There was a continual hum from the speakers and even though I was in the middle of the theater, I could barely see the screen as the projector bulb was waaaaayyyy too dim. I got my money back, and vowed until I heard differently, they will not be getting my money ever again.

I'm weird like that...I take my movie watching seriously. Maybe I'm spoiled on my home theater, but if I'm gonna pay that kind of money for a movie, then somebody better change the projector bulb every once in a while and check the sound system more than once year.

Sorry...I'm rambling....this is about The Movie Reel.

Yes, we drove to New Albany to see this movie, and it was worth the drive. The Movie Reel is a small independently owned, 4 screen theater. It's not like the grand stadium seating we get at The Malco, but they apparently have just installed some new seating, that I thouroughly enjoyed. It was made for Big Boys...like me!

Anyway, they have a decent little concession stand up front with all the usual, and overall it was not as expensive as watching a movie in Tupelo, we might have made the difference up in gas, but I was happy to hand over my 11 bucks for 2 tickets. The staff was cordial, and I found everything to be quaint. They were doing quite a bit of business as well. Batman was not packed, but I peeped in the Herbie theater and it was standing room only...WOW. Not bad for a 4 screen theater off the beaten path.

My wife agreed, she liked the theater and we intend to do this in the future when a movie we want to see is not playing at the Malco. The Movie Reel will get our dollars instead.

Okay, where is it? I might convince BSIGrimreaper to go see it with me to make sure it's okay for my kids to watch...a "scouting mission" yeah, that's the ticket...that way I won't make my wife, Morgan Fairchild, upset...

Also, I keep seeing a phone number at the end of credits, 1-800-PHONE-THX. You give them a call, they look the theater up in their certification database. If the theater is behind in their certs, they go there and check them out to make sure they are okay. If they are not okay, they lose their certification and their first-run status to show THX enhanced movies..It's the equivalent of a video store selling movies early, if they get busted too many times, they get fined.

I know that THX checked out the Cinemark for Star Wars: Episode One. Lucas wanted to make sure it would be as good as it could be but that was a long time ago.

Forgot to mention... Take 78 to Memphis get off at the Walmart exit (not sure of the number...look for Walmart on the left and take that exit). At the end of the ramp make a right. Get in the far left lane as soon as possible, and at the first red light, make a left on Coultur (sp?) St. You'll see McAlister's on the right...keep going, it's another block up on the left. You can't miss it. It's the only building out there.

To the Wittmobile! I'll be Wittzomaniack, you can be Chodaboy, and BSIGrimreaper can be Bunny BoyMan. You two can fight over which one of you wears the gay Robin tights or the cool Nightwing costume. I have my own tights...

We can fight crime at night and be mild-mannered whatevers during the day. We can hang out at the Wittcave and use the the Wittboat to waterski and stuff..but as sidekicks, you two will have to take turns rowing..

Well, well, well, the big ole goober FINIALLY took my advice & went to check out the Movie Reel. How many times did I tell him he would enjoy it. Maybe million, nah maybe a billion. (well enough harping on facts)
The Movie Reel is very nice theater, if you want to see a movie that the Cinemark (crappy seating & service or us) is playing then go to the Movie Reel. The price is just right & food was miles ahead of puke central (Cinemark). Its easy to get to, once you get off HWY 78 at the wal-mart exit, go east to the red light. There is a BP gas station at that light turn left, you will pass Wendys, & the Theater is just 1/4 of mile up that road on the left. Need movie times? Just call 662-534-7300

Okay, the Movie Reel is a nice little theater. It's new so everything still works, unlike Cinemark. The sound is not the latest and greastest like at the Malco, but they have stadium seating that is comfortable for thick people. Ahem. I hope they do well enough to have more screenings available of newer movies.

The admission is a dollar cheaper. We ate some critter at the Safari Cafe before the movie, so I don't know about the concessions, but movie food is movie food. The mall area does have more choices, but the Safari Cafe was good. It had a good salad bar and the best bleu cheese dressing I've had in a while. BSIGrim LOVES salad!

We rode with BSIGrim and wife, it gave us a chance to talk about the movie on the way home, usually we head straight home and don't get a chance to talk.
