Had dinner out with a couple of friends tonight, and I'm done. I'm not eating out anymore. I'm sick and tired of being treated like an inconvenience by servers. There's no such thing as good service or courtesy anymore.
Now I'm naming names. Here are the Tupelo-area restaurants with the absolute worst service in town, starting with #10:
10. Chili's
9. Applebee's (except for the waitress with the foreign accent, who is actually a very good server)
8. Jefferson Place
7. Pizza Hut near the mall
6. Quizno's (for pure rudeness -- they don't have people waiting tables, but the morons behind the counter are awful)
5. Carmita's/Rankin House (Ironically, when she doesn't have very many tables, Carmita is the best hostess/server ever. But when she's busy, you can hang it up.)
4. Big Easy
3. Ruby Tuesday
2. Mallard & Thatch (I know, they're closed, but the service there was SO BAD that it lingers in my memory.)
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST...
1. Benjamin's on Main

Applebee's in general have very poor service, I've found. The only way I eat there anymore is if it is a business lunch and someone else is buying and they pick it.
Earlier this week I passed through Forrest City, Arkansas and stopped at Wendy's for a quick sandwich. Though the place only had one customer, it was a pig sty. Flies were everywhere and the condiment bar had ketchup everywhere and all the napkins were scattered about. My chicken sandwich had to have been two days old; so bad, in fact, that I couldn't finish it. That makes twice I've eaten at a Wendy's in Arkansas (the other time was about 15 years ago) and both were just plain nasty. Way back then I wrote a letter to Wendy's HQ to complain about that particular store (don't remember exactly which town) and they sent me a reply thanking me for eating at Wendy's and enclosed a coupon. Which reminds me of something I should put in the pet peave thread: Businesses which reply to complaint letters with a generic "thank you for your business" letter - making it obvious they never even read your complaint.

Ha ha ha ha ha! KR! That is funny. And true. They just don't care because they are everywhere. What's the matter with folks like us who want to spend our hard earned money on decent food and a clean place?
Calliope, I went to Ruby Tuesdays just once, for lunch. We had a spinach artichoke dip, which was good. But after that , it all went downhill. We waited for an hour to eat lunch! I had ordered some kind of hamburger wrap and when they finally brought it out to me, I bit into it and it was completely raw meat inside. The outside was browned enough to make you think it was cooked. I gagged and spit it out. The waitress never checked on us and when I finally got her attention, I had to ask her to just give us our check, take my order off of it, cuz I wasn't paying for raw food that I could not eat. The manager brought me another one but I told him that after the wait and biting into raw hamburger, I completely lost my appetite.
NEVER NEVER will I go back there.

Can't stand Ruby Tuesday (except for the salad bar), can't stand Applebee's, never going to eat out again. Grr.
