I looked over there on djournal. There are 80 people signed in. I wonder what they are looking at? The message from Bobby took two seconds to read.

actually the number of people logged on are not necessarily looking at the forums, they could be reading classified, obits, news, articles, storys, galleries, etc.

Yes they could but as one of the oldest forum member over there, I can safely say about 40 is average.

And now..you HAVE to login to view any forums. That's complete nonsense. What, are they hiding Top Secret information in there now? At least guests can view the majority of the discussions here, and they can even post in TF's blog. TF...you're not gonna follow suit and close the forum down to registered people only, are you?

I don't foresee that happening ASE here at TupeloForums, although we would like to encourage everyone to register here and be a part of our little cyber world. We need voices to be heard and we would like to hear from everyone.

ASE...
While I don't claim to know the entire story of what happened at the DJournal forums, I do know a great bit and can fill in the blanks pretty close to accurate. It's simple, really, Bobby Pepper is the admin there and he makes the rules. Obviously, he is trying to get things calmed down to the point where he doesn't have to babysit it constantly. Forum admin's do this kind of thing all the time when you have a major situation happen. It weeds out looky-lookies and slowly things will get back on track.
Most people take posting on a given forum seriously, many call it their home away from home. And others take it as free speech in it's purest form, although it is not. There have to be rules. The rules I use follows a Terms of Service (TOS) that every member agrees to when joining the forum. Then I have my own rules on top of that. I try to follow a "Community Acceptance Standard" template. In other words, since our forum is based around the community of Tupelo, our forum rules should mimic what is acceptable within our community.
If that's a turnoff, there's tons of other forums to get involved in with much looser rules where you can say and post anything you want. That's not this forum.
As far as guests viewing and posting. Guests will always be able to view the majority of our discussion areas. The areas that are closed are special areas or "perks" for joining and participating in the forum. Guests may post in my blog because most blogs allow this function or if they don't you have to register for a blog to post to other people's blogs....that's kinda silly if you just want to comment.
I am contemplating setting up a discussion area just for guests to post. Guests can ask questions, comment, and do most of the other normal posting functions. Again, I am just planning this out and work it on a trial run basis.

Well, I think people have already forgotten that two threads about the PD were deleted prior to the forum shutdown.
What's the point? If they are just going to delete what you wrote because they disagree with you.

NAL,
deleted posts/threads aren't new at djforums... especially when it involves "powers that be".
i don't blame bobby for that.. he's got to keep his job.

crimson posted on the locked thread: "I'm very curious about that myself. I kept going deeper and deeper into the forums but couldn't find anything. Just out of curiosity would you be able to give a little more info on this scandal? I don't need specifics or exact quotes or anything... just a general synopsis would be great. "
crimson... ever think you can't find things b/c they were deleted?
