I'd rather they were killed than bite someone and they get rabies. But I thought dogs were snacks for them not pets.

I understand the rabies issue, but not all dogs have rabies. To beat a dog to death in front of their owner, especially a child's pet is not the way to handle rabies. This is 2006! If someone killed my dog because another dog had rabies, someone might die over my dog! I hardly think a dog being walked on a leash is a snack

When I was about 4 years old my father came out on the porch one day and told me to call my puppy. I did and he produced a pistol from behind his back and shot it in the head then walked back in the house without saying anything other than "drag it off".
I can still see that pool of blood growing in the dirt.
Funny the things one can remember.
Years later I learned that the puppy had the mange. At the time, though, I just figured my father was mad at me for having a puppy. I haven't cared much for dogs since then - or him, I guess.
I guess my point is that I agree there are much more humane ways to dispose of sick animals.

That is such a horrid memory Rat. That even makes me shiver as an adult. I can't imagine the image left in a child's mind! These days mange (and also rabies) can be treated, and if that is not an option for you, there are other humane ways to deal with it, and certainly not in front of a child for that memory to haunt them forever.

Absolutely horrible. As someone else said, it's 2006! There are better ways to handle this. Of course, humane has never been at the top of the descriptive words list used for China.
