I travel alot around the Southeast and I see alot of strange things on the road. I thought this would qualify as something worth talking about here.
I was on Hwy 45 South yesterday, just south of West Point, when a black crown vic bearing the Seal of the City of Nettleton, and of course "City of Nettleton" splashed along the side, pulled up along side of me. I am 99.9% certain I saw Mayor Brandon Presley of Nettleton driving. He looked and waved at me and continued south at a speed I would estimate at 95 to 100 mph. I tried to catch up to get the tag and be certain, but he was moving waaaaay too fast. And I simply will not drive at those insane speeds. In fact, he was the most dangerous driver on the road for miles and miles.
What could possibly be so urgent that the Mayor of Nettleton needed to endanger the lives of everyone on the road?
Does anyone with a Crown Vic, and a couple of large antennaes feel like they are the po-po and can just drive as fast as they want?
I was a reserve police officer for 4 years and I gained such a huge respect for the job police officers do. But wannabe's are everywhere and are far more frightening to me than officer's who take their jobs too seriously. Is this what is going on? As far as I know, Mayor Presley has no training as a law enforcement officer, and furthermore, even if he had, I can see NO EXCUSE whatsoever for his wreckless abandonment for lives on the road. I'd like to hear what others think about this. Am I wrong with this line of thinking?

So if he passed you at 95-100 mph and had time to wave at you, TF, just how fast were YOU driving? Or perhaps he just waved with one finger because you were in his way? Or maybe he slowed when he passed you then took off again at that high rate of speed? Seriously, though, I'm sure he had some very good reason for driving so fast. You know, Governor Barbour was in Saltillo yesterday so maybe the mayor of Nettleton was trying to catch up with him and tell him about all the new development going on in his city. But if you don't like any of those excuses, well, didn't you say he was a Presley?

Heh, I was actuallygoing the speed limit at the time because I just got through the city limits of West Point. He was coming up and as he passed me, gave me a wave, and then FLOORED IT! He was heading toward Meridian...going South on 45.
I don't know KR. I cannot imagine an emergency that would require those speeds for non-law enforcement personell. The example he has set is deplorable. Anyone from around Nettleton wanna chime in?

Oh, so he was headed south? That explains it then. He was probably headed to the coast to carry some bottled water or something to the Katrina victims. Or maybe FEMA entrusted him with all the new keys to the FEMA trailers and he was in a hurry to get them to the residents of FEMA City.
Or maybe he was doing a gas mileage test to see how much MPG decrease a Crown Vic gets at high speeds. Some cities pay millions of dollars for studies like that and just maybe he was trying to save his city all that money by doing the tests himself. In which case he would be a hero - risking his life to save taxpayers' money.
Of course there IS always the chance that he was just in a hurry and figured he was immune to the law. That would be a longshot, though, given the rarity of such a thing amongst our politicians.

I travel through Nettleton nearly every day. They have radars and enforce the speed limit. Many times the police are set waiting just over a hill and you cannot see them until you get over the hills. So I am complying with the speed limit laws. It is a very bad example for the mayor, who is over law enforcement to be breaking the law and take the fines from speeders to put into the city coffers.

I live in nettleton, and I just want to say we have an A+ police department from what I have seen - I live on buchanan across from usave, and the speed limit is 20, and people speed by going 45 & 55, so I appreciate that the cops set up the speed trap - now I don't know much about the speed traps on the highway, they don't bother me much, I don't speed. And about the mayor speeding, he should slow his fanny down - you could always call the state police on your cell and report him as a wreckless driver....

I just wished I had my camera with me at that time, I would have loved to have had photos.
