Pontotoc County’s new Main Street Association has hit the ground running, with its activities joined formally with the Pontotoc County Chamber of Commerce in the first countywide agency of its kind in Mississippi. Chartered by the Mississippi and national Main Street program offices earlier this fall, the Main Street Association is empowered to work in all of Pontotoc County’s municipalities. Sherman and Ecru have joined the city of Pontotoc in providing funds, and the Pontotoc County Board of Supervisors has provided support so that Thaxton, Algoma and Toccopola can participate.
Has anyone heard what the plans are here? I hope it's not more trees or flowers left out where you trip over them.

I haven't heard but I wish the Ponotoc County Board of Supervisors would take at least a little notice of the horrible condition of county roads. In district #2 we have a supervisor who obviously thinks gravel is BETTER than pavement since the short paved part of Cane Creek Road between 76 & 334 was turned back to gravel! To add insult to injury the "Pavement Ends" sign was left as a monument to reverse progress.
There is simply no excuse why we still have gravel roads in 2006. Corruption is not a legitimate excuse. What we now have in Pontotoc is a bunch of roads that are paved for a ways and then turn back to gravel just past certain driveways. Take Juba road between 76 & 334 for example: It is paved except for about a mile (at the 334 end). I take this road as a shortcut and it lets me bypass the morning and evening commute traffic in Pontotoc but my pickup suffers the dings and filth of gravel travel. My wife foregoes the shortcut because her van is newer and we would like to keep it in decent shape.
I would wager that if our supervisors would pave (oil and some gray rock) all the county roads the savings in the costs associated with grading them would pay for it in no time. My road was paved a couple of years ago and the relief from the dust has been a godsend.

You drive right past my sister and brothers house on Juba Road! I agree the firetower road needs paved ALL the way. So does Waldo Road. Or whatever it is being called now. Lake MCCaren road, that they are calling Cane Creek is deplorable. And have you rode down Toccopolo Junction Road. It has more potholes than road! Did they ever pave Hoedown Road? There are alot of unpaved roads in the county. Take a drive down Smoke Top. It is paved at both ends, the middle washes out everytime it gets a hard rain.
