OXFORD – All that’s left before construction can begin on Oxford’s Pathways project is paperwork from the Mississippi Department of Transportation and a groundbreaking. City officials and volunteer committee members undertook the project “to diversify and increase transportation and recreation opportunities in Oxford by creating an interconnected grid of bike lanes, pedestrian sidewalks and multi-use paths.” Mike Bennett Construction Co. was awarded the bid with 200 working days to add bike lanes to McElroy Drive, to pave the abandoned railway through and south of Oxford and to build a bike-pedestrian bridge along the same route across Jackson Avenue.
"I think all towns should follow this and make pathways and bike trails for children." They said they are going to set it up where a teacher or parents walk with children so the trail doesn't get dangerous. Neat ideal!

I would think that a university town would have a heavy volume of bike and pedestrian traffic so this sounds like a great idea to me.
