Anyone go to the parade Saturday? My wife and I took our son and he loved it. The part he liked most was the motorcycle cops zooming up and down the sides of the street. He thought they were Power Rangers (he's almost 4) and it sent him into his Power Ranger skit - he can do the "Ranger Up" scene where each one of them mumble something and transform into costume. I noticed that some in the crowd were watching him instead of the parade. ;D

We didn't go to Tupelo's parade. My hubby sings in a gospel group and we went to Toccopola Parade in Pontotoc County. His group sang afterward.
The thing that I don't like about Tupelo's parade is that it's during the day. When I was a kid the parade was at night and it was great to be able to see all the lights. I don't know why they started doing it during the day. It's just not the same.

I didn't go. I cannot stand traffic tryin to escape afterwards. I also hate traffic and I hate being anywhere if there are more than 4 or 5 people around (and that includes family). However, the way my wife put it to me Saturday morning pretty much let me know I was a worthless cur if I didn't go with her to take OUR son to see the parade. So I went. And, actually, I enjoyed it. We ducked in via Carnation street and found a parking space within a block of Main Street. We walked up to Main Street just as the first float was going by and found an empty spot right on the street plenty big enough for us. No one was in front of or behind us nor crowding us from either side. When we left there was virtually no traffic. Pretty darned pleasant. I had never been to a daytime parade and thought the idea stupid but I actually enjoyed it better than the night parades I always get dragged to in Pontotoc (where it is always crowded, the kids can't see, we have to walk about half a mile uphill both ways, of course, and it's so cold the snot freezes to your face). Maybe it had something to do with being able to see that chick in the skin tight Catwoman suit walk by in the daylight and know that I was SUPPOSED to be watching (so I didn't get slapped by my wife).

I took the three grandbabies to the parade. They had a blast, although I wish it had been at night. those horses had some pretty lights on them and some of the floats were lit up, but you couldn't tell. The WORSE thing I saw was Barney Fife. grrrr

I wondered about the Barney Fife thing, G2Y. Do you think the likeness was intentional or accidental? What with the Mayberry sheriff's car in front and the way Jim Johnson was walking and waving it looked like he was trying to imitate Barney on purpose. But I can't imagine why.
I didn't see the motorcycle cops fall over but, as a motorcyclist, I can tell you that the slow stop-and-go pace is the hardest thing to do on a motorcycle. Everytime you have to put your foot down you lose your balance for a split second. That's why I hate 4-way stops on a bike if there is a lot of traffic.

yes, he was doing it on purpose. when he got close to where we were, he ran back to the car and pointed to the tag on the front and screamed, "yeah, I'm the sheriff in this hear town, and don't you forget it."
I have a big problem with Fife want-a-be and that just sealed it for me.
