Again, as a curiosity, who has used any of the local service companies in Tupelo? Who do you feel is the best as far as knowledge and are you willing to pay more for better service? I know of the following companies in Tupelo: (Not in any order)
Redmagnet Computer Universe Active DataComm and now the GeekSquad.
Would be really interested if any have used the Geeks then had to have another company come do it correctly or vice versa. Coming from an IT background and being a current network engineer, I'm just curious as to how well they do and how well BestBuy trains them.

Well I have used Computer Universe for quite some time. Eddie is quite knowledgable particularly about hardware. I would support the hometown people before the big box chain, even when their is a minor difference in the price. I like having someone I can grab by the collar if I need to...hehe.

Laziness has taken control of me and I tend to whip out the Visa and go with whoever will let me order/request/complain online then deliver my product/service to my office. If I could get the UPS guy to open the box for me I'd probably do that too.

I work for the Geek Squad. Let me first say that Best Buy doesn't really train you to work on computers. That is something you have to know before they hire you. However if you want to work on certs they will let you take online classes that they provide and sometimes will pay for the tests. They also give you access to the latest tools to keep you up to date on software and hardware.
As for how compentent that we are, well I may be biased but I would say that we do pretty well. What helps is that we offer a warranty on all services that we provide as well as not voiding your mfg warranty on your pc by working on it.
What I am best at is removing virii and spyware. One thing Geek Squad prides thereself on it is not just restoring your computer when you have OS problems or get infected. We fix the issue instead of just restoring your pc if at all possible.
Now on another note. Being a female that works on pc's in North Mississippi can be aggravating. I still see a lot of men who assume that because I am a woman I know nothing about computers. It's not as bad as it was when I first started doing it over 10 years ago, but it still happens.
I apologize for any spelling or grammer errors......still on my first cup of coffee.
