www.wgal.com/news/10087115/detail.htmlCHARLESTON, S.C. -- A South Carolina fifth-grade teacher allowed five students -- a boy and four girls -- to use a trash can as a toilet during a school lockdown drill when nobody was supposed to leave the classroom. When you gotta go...ya gotta go! And, of course, the teacher is put on paid administrative leave. I got news for that school district, if an actual emergency had happened, where are the kids supposed to go? That's what they need to be asking themselves. Should they go in their pants? It's hard enough in public schools with all the shootings going on, but now students have to lose ALL their dignity by peeing their pants? If you're gonna drill, you better make it like real life...because that's what happens. You either pee in the trash or you pee in your pants. Tornado drills take 10 minutes...tops. Lockdown could be for hours. Let's ask Randy McCoy if he has planned for this? Surely with his 6 figure salary Tupelo Public School District has a plan in place for kids needing to poop during Lockdown...I'm being fecesious...or am I? TF

Had the teacher slept with the five children (assuming the teacher is a she) it would be a non-issue and she could continue working.
I agree with you, TF - what was the teacher supposed to do?
Speaking of lockdown drills, I had planned to start a new thread this morning but I think it fits in with this one: There is a renewed push by some to arm teachers.
Personally, I don't like the idea of having armed teachers not because I don't trust the teachers but because I don't like the idea of guns being potentially accessible to so many kids. The threat of deaths by accident, I suggest, would far outweigh any threat from an armed intruder. But, speaking of the teachers, how much sense does it really make to have a teacher - probably the most stressful job in the world - armed? How long would it be before we turned on the television and saw a story where a stressed out teacher went nuts and shot up a classroom full of children because little Jonny wouldn't keep his mouth shut? Of course it would likely be a male teacher because the females would all be relieving their stress by sleeping with little Johnny.

My gut feeling says this teacher should be commended, not suspended. She made the best of a bad situation and had it been an actual emergency she stood up to the task and used her available resources. That is what a drill is about! What would you do if it were an emergency, and she proved she could find a way.

It appears that the teacher's superiors look to be brainDEAD. To be educators, they sure appear stOOpid. I mean, come on....we are talking about children here whose bladders cannot be controlled as well as an adults. I think that they are the ones who should be suspended...permanently. I have not much use for educators who do not use their brains and go only by rules on paper.
This is not to be taken as all educators are stupid, only the ones who do ignorant things like this.

how long was that freakin "drill" that students needed to relieve themselves.
either way...ridiculous that a teacher would be put on leave b/c of it...
and TF- to answer your question...No there is no plan for it.

No plan for pooping? Well, I would love to hear what teachers are supposed to do in the event a child needs to poop during lockdown. God knows I would not send my kid to a school where the basics are not addressed. This still boggles my mind.
The sheer fact that NO ONE has made plans to address the MOST BASIC OF NEEDS during lockdown is simply asinine! You would think for $100,000 bucks a year someone could instruct teachers where to send their kids to poop during lockdown. And they want everyone to FULLY fund education? Why? So Superintendent's can get bigger raises?

This is a damned if you do/don't situation. The parents would have been very angry if the teacher had not allowed the students to use the bathroom. What was the teacher supposed to do? Was this issue ever covered in a training session? Seems to me that the administration needed to be sent home. I am going to bring this up the next time we have a safety meeting.

And they want everyone to FULLY fund education? Why? So Superintendent's can get bigger raises? TF getting off topic (but but but, TF started it!!!! ;D) this coming 3% raise for a ~30K teacher gives them a ~$1K raise. a $100K super gets a $3K raise. this "fully funding" education is horsepoo. they need to cut some top heavy fat first, THEN, if education still needs money, fine. btw, i'm gonna ask every teacher i know the "poop plan during lockdown"... that should be interesting conversation. ;D (i just love to talk chit!)

Well, all they have to do is work on trimming down the 152 down to something more workable.
