My wife and I were talking and we decided that we don't go out and do things enough. Apparently the grocery/shopping/park trips aren't enough. If it were just us we'd hit some of the adult places and chill out. But... we've got a son who will be three next month. So my question is this: What is there to do around Tupelo that's child friendly and relatively inexpensive? We try to go to Ballard park as often as possible but we've discovered that some parents take their kids there, drop them off, leave and let them run wild. My son's been pushed off the jungle gym thing two or three times now and the offending child's parents are never there.

I hear your frustration Crimson. We have struggled with that age ole question for years now. There is nothing in Tupelo to do, except movies and go eat....well when you are 3 that is not an option. We have a 3 year old grand that we spend a lot of time with and can never find "kid friendly" things to do with her. Our day out usually consists of CiCi's Pizza, the merry-go-round in the mall and the arcade. It stinks that Tupelo does not have anything for kids to do, and then they wander and try to address the juvenile problem on the streets.....its bordem.
I always said before Scruggs went in that would be a perfect place for an amusment park of some sort that was open year round. I am anxious to hear some more responses on this topic. We need some fresh ideas.

I was talking to my dad about this and he's put out the idea that even if you give kids a place to congregate they're still going to cause problems. Which, to an extent, they would. That's the way of things. (Heh, I'm 27. Not far from being a kid myself so says my wife.) But we could really use a place like Q-zar or a Chucky Cheese. In talking with my wife at lunchtime she said she'd like to try going to that place on Main St. where you can paint pottery. The boy would make a righteous mess but I think it'd be fun for him. Anyone ever gone there?

I am 42 and I would love to Chuck E. Cheese! I agree that it's possible some kids would get into trouble no matter what, but if they have no options it's a guarantee they will. I would like to see a rec room for kids of all ages come in. I would like to see a water park or amusement park. I would also like to see something like a club/bar for teens that played their music and served nonalcoholic drinks. A place for kids to hang out. The teens need something, but actually kids of all ages do. There is nothing in Tupelo for a family to do, besides go to the movie or go out to eat.

Little kids like to bowl, then you have Adventure land, the Buffalo Park, you can take them skating, that Rainbow Putt-N-Fun if it is still open. It's getting to be summer, T-ball is good. On the playground at Ballard's Park, I would either play with my child so they couldn't be shoved down or borrow an older child, to go play and help keep an eye on trouble makers. When I took my granddaughter who is three I also take my 8 year old and a lot of times I make my 15 and/or 16 year old go. My eight year old will not shove anyone back but my teenagers will get behind my three year old granddaughter and make sure she isn't knocked around. Also we will take bread to feed the ducks. But be careful doing that some of the ducks are greedy and will attack for more bread. My 16 year old once put two boys who were about 12 in "time out" until they would play nicely. Their mother came back while they were in time out and wasn't too happy with her. But I told her it was better for those kids to be in time out because I started to call the police to come and fetch them for being brats. Before it was over she liked my daughter a whole lot better than she liked me. She didn't like being told she was neglectful for turning her brats loose without someone watching them.

Bowling is usually good... unfortunately because of my disability I can no longer do such a thing and my wife just doesn't like it.
We've got plans to go to the buffalo park, we're just waiting on Tristen's grandparents to be ready. Since we moved here they've been saying they want to go with him fro the first time.
I've never heard of Adventure Land or Rainbow Putt-N-Fun? Where are those? We've seen the putt-putt place in the mall but there's always a horde of misbehaving children in there running wild when we walk by.
I guess, really, what I'm looking for is something that my whole family can do... including my disability. Standing for long periods of time is something I cannot do nor can I do things that are physically demanding. Thank you so much for your replies. I'm going to look into this adventure land thing and see if I can talk the wife into it. =)

All you chucky cheese fans should be getting excited possibly. There has been the rumor that tupelo has been getting one for a long time, and now kinda we are. A guy I and Witt work with is opening something that is basically a chucky cheese just under a different name. It should be open this summer I believe. It will be in that old furniture store in front of the old mall. When I talk with him again I'll see if I can get some more details.

We need something like a Q-zar (A laser tag place for those that don't know). The one in Toldeo, OH rocks. It has a huge arcade attached to it and, I think, five different laser tag arenas. It also had like a food court. No McDonald's or anything... more like the snack bar in department stores. It's like paintball without the paint and it was relatively cheap. Like ten bucks to jump in the arena for an hour... all gear supplied. If I had money/investors I would so very try and open one. Of course we'd have to have security. Kids these days are buttholes.
It was mentioned earlier that we need like a 'bar' for teenagers to go to. I agree with this. In Indiana they had one called 'The Cave.' It was basically a cafe/bar/dance club type thing for kids 13-18. Nonalcoholic drinks, a safe monitored enviroment... I was never really into the 'club scene' being the metal head I was... but I went a few times with my g/f at the time. Looking back I realize what a good place it was. Tupelo, I think, would benefit from something like that.

A teen hang out would be great. But you know usually when someone has a nice place a select few ruin it.

That place on Robert E. Lee drive has or used to have Lazer Tag.
Tupelo has had several non-alcoholic places for teens to hang out at but they broke down in time from kids sneaking stuff in and fighting. None of them were truly family-oriented, though.

Yeah, Adventure Land on Daybright says it has laser tag. Just discovered that last night looking through the yellow pages for a lawn mower repair shop. When I have a chance I'm gonna go check it out. See if it's a place the boy could play at without bigger kids pushing him around.
