As for all of you that have read some of my posts in the past, I work for a local optometrist & we just happen to accept Medicaid. In the 8 + years that I have worked @ this Local Clinic, I have seen plenty of people that have Medicaid. There are a lot of people that have it & I don't see why they NEED it. And, others that can not get it & apparently need it. Or, those that have had it in the past & tragically lost it. It kills me when a couple of patients pull up in front of the clinic in a Recent Model of Expedition, Yukon, Escalade, Suburban, etc. They walk in & hand you a prescription. You ask if any insurance will be used & they reply MEDICAID. You show them the board of frames that their insurance covers & they turn up their nose. Then they spend $200 to $300 extra dollars on their glasses. If you can spend that kind of money on glasses or can even drive a vehicle like the ones listed above, you don't need a Medicaid Card. Medicaid is for disabled or the Needy. Not for the ones, that apparently lie about their income; to get the precious Medicaid Card. Or the ones, that don't have time to go get a job; because they're at home constantly having babies. Then, there are the old or sick folks; that have numerous Prescription Drugs that they HAVE to take every day, just to stay alive. And, they get their Medicaid yanked out from under their feet or they are not eligible to get it. Because, they are telling the truth about their income & there's all these other people that are fibbing about their income. How can we stop this?

Sadly it can't be stopped. My wife and I have that same problem. I make just enough money that my son can be covered by medicaid but she and I cannot (anymore. We used to be.). I can't afford the insurance at work yet.
I agree with your perceptions though. A lot of people that shouldn't have it do and a lot of people that should have it don't. It drives me nuts to see people driving around in a 'pimped out' ride with a rediculous stereo system/paint job/rims/low profile tires/etc but they get food stamps, medicaid and all sorts of assistance. Hell, you can drive around just about any part of Tupelo and see a 'pimped out' ride sitting in front of the most broken down house in town.
But, back on topic here. Sorry about that minor derailment. There really is no way to stop it... not without a major overhaul of the entire system from the ground up. I honestly don't know how the people get it when they shouldn't. I had to provide proof of income by giving them copies of like three months worth of pay stubs.
