I know this topic has been discussed everywhere but the recent London plot brings it once again to the forefront. And, once again elderly women, pregnant women - everyone except young muslim men - are being targeted by airport security. When will we learn?
The very notion that profiling is somehow wrong or discriminatory is pure bunk - to rational thought what global warming is to science.
Profiling isn't a method of determining guilt or innocence but a means of determing risk, or likelihood.
When you see a rattled pickup truck with a Confederate battle flag splashed across the back glass or rear bumber don't you automatically assume redneck? And aren't you usually right? It doesn't mean the person driving is definitely a redneck or a racist but it certainly increases the likelihood.
And it is the same with young muslim men in our country, especially those on student visas (which is another topic altogether). The terrorist attacks are from Islamic nutcases and in almost every instance they are young men of Arab desent. So is it wrong to pay more attention to them at airports? Absolutely not. To believe otherwise is nothing more than self-serving liberal hogwash. 100% emotion and 0% rational thought.
Watch the evening news. Almost every time they have an arrest for robbery or a shooting or murder the suspect is a young black male. And I don't recall any of them looking like they were dressed for success. So is it racist to double-check your wallet if you are walking down the street and pass a group of young black males with their caps on sideways and the seat of their pants slapping their knees? Of course not.
Likewise, again watching the evening news, almost every time you see a person arrested for molesting a child the suspect is a white male (age doesn't seem to be a factor). So if you are at the park and you see a lone white male lurking around the playground with no apparent tie to any of the playing kids are you descriminating against him if you move just a bit closer to where your child is playing? Not in my book.
And, finally, take serial killers. Experts tell us they are almost without fail white males. And in the case of serial killers the cops focus their efforts on white males and make no apology for it. It is acceptable. Why? Or, more should be the question, why is it not acceptable to do the same thing with other crimes where the pattern is definable?
