Not that I am against tracking phone calls. ----- But, I do have a problem with our current gov't getting caught with their hands in the cookie jar time after time and then explaining to us how it is "for our own good".
If it is for our own good, just let us know about it and we will decide at the polls if we agree. Just running roughshod over our privacy is really getting unnerving. If I can't call BellSouth and get your telephone records, then Uncle Sam shouldn't be able to either. At least not without my permission, or probable cause.
I want to write that the time will come when we complain about our gov't then we will get picked up and thrown in a concentration camp. But, in a sad way, that is slowly taking place already. If you protest in front of the White House about bluebirds losing their natural habitat, you are immediately scrutinized and stalked privately for the next several years (possibly life) under the watch of the "all seeing eye".
This is sad news for BellSouth, I intend to switch to Dixie-Net VOP within the next thirty days. I will tell them I do not appreciate them giving MY personal info to MY gov't without MY permission. Of course, to believe the average citizen has any control over our gov't anymore is delusional . Maybe one of these days I can contribute a few million dollars to a political party and actually feel like I am part of America again.

I've been telling people about "Carnivore" for years and nobody believed me. Little did I know that the government was two steps ahead of my paranoia. I figured since I never called international, I was "safe".
"Carnivore" is a filter used by the NSA to log phone calls and Internet traffic to Europe. The EU has a similar filter that logs calls and Internet traffic to the US. If you mention certain words and names, it records the conversation and flags your phone number or IP address. You are then monitored to see if you are a "threat".
For years the government has been using any means necessary to erode our rights away and violating them outright.
The Constitution and Bill of Rights have held up well so far, but I hope the government eventually gets 'roids from using them as toilet paper.

If we could just suspend time for a day or so, take a look at all that has happened in the last 5 years and the gov response to it all, including verbal responses from all key government officials, I think, after putting it all in proper perspective, the people would see things much differently. O what a tangled web we weave......

You know what really gripes me about this crap?
Our gov't will follow us "little guys" all over the Internet and telephone without our knowledge, but will not follow the individual(s) that bought Put options on Boeing, American, and United days prior to 9/11. That is a sale easy to follow - only licensed brokers can make trades on the stock exchange. That person would know the person that ordered it. And for heaven's sake, surely we can find out what bank account the money was transferred from and into.
That's been so long ago I can't even remember the excuse as to why we could not follow that money trail. I hope it wasn't because of privacy issues.
