I was just pondering whether to read those books. Maybe you could tell me based on my taste...I love horror and fantasy...
I read and loved the Harry Potter books, some of the Dragonlance Chronicles, and I'm currently on book 6 of the Dark Tower series. So based on that, do you think I would like Eragon?

I am reading Eragon right now. Christopher Paolini was only 15 when he wrote this book. It is really well written and a quick read, but he does get hung up on the details at times. His writing is reminiscent of Tolkien's.

I have no clue what books you are talking about but I have NEVER seen a movie (after reading the book) where I wasn't extremely disappointed. So I make it a practice not to watch movies if I have read the book, or if I intend to do so. One of my greatest disappointments was "The Stand" by Stephen King. How they could take one of the best books ever written and make such a terrible movie out of it amazed me. The only reason I broke my tradition and watched the movie in the first place was that King had promised to exercise creative control and keep the movie in step with the book. Didn't happen. The ending was nothing like the book.

His writing is reminiscent of Tolkien's. This is a perfect description. I would agree with everything said! Missfairy based on the books you gave as examples I think you would like these. Tons of elves, dwarfs, dragons and other creatures to get interested in. The story line is entertaining and will hold your attention. I have no clue what books you are talking about but I have NEVER seen a movie (after reading the book) where I wasn't extremely disappointed. So I make it a practice not to watch movies if I have read the book, or if I intend to do so. Generally I am the same way, I am learning to lessen my expectations and understand that sometimes including everything the book is impossible....it is helping me to enjoy the movies more. It stinks when they totally take a good book and just kill it though.

I am excited about the movie as well. The 2 books were awesome. Hope the movie lives up to them.

Since Eragon is playing at the mall, beagle, Mudslingr, possibly some more folks and I will travel to Corinth to see it. Have the books thanks to beagle and will read them over the holidays. As far as movies disappointing after reading the books, I think LOTR was okay and I believe C.S Lewis would be very proud of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe if alive today. Yes, Jackson did edit the story line of LOTR (can't believe he left out Tom Bombadil!!!). Still, it was eye candy to someone who has read these books multiple times. Will let you know about the Corinth theater experience.

The movie is awesome. beagle said that it moved too quickly through the storyline, but she liked it as well. We talked about it for 2 hours upon returning home. The three of us drove to Corinth and had a very nice evening. You take the first exit which is Harper Road off Hwy 45 and it's less than five minutes away. The large Malco sign is easily seen from the road. Parking is ample. After Mudslingr picked up some popcorn, Coke and Starbucks coffee from a well organized concerssion stand we proceeded into the theater which quickly filled with polite smiling people. This is the way to enjoy a flick! No talking or yelling, no cell phones rang, people cheered and clapped, a great night. The theater is a very nice structure and I have to comment that they have bathrooms that emulate the cleanliness usually found in a hospital. Great movie, grand theater and if the Good Lord is a willin' we shall return!

It was good but the book is better. This is also a rare case in which I would say watch the movie first and then read the book. If you read the book and then see the movie (like I did) you will be sitting there going "WTF?!? They just skipped like 4 chapters!" and also "This is moving WAY to fast" like I was.
3 out of 5 Stars
The Shade, Saphira, Brom and Murtagh all are cast very well. The Ra'zac looked as creepy as I imagined them to be in my mind. I am mad they screwed up Arya's hair (it is supposed to be Raven colored, NOT blonde). I am also slightly miffed that Eragon is sort of a "pretty boy" in the movie, I imagined him to be scruffier and darker haired.
They change the plot on more than one thing and sometimes it is TOTALLY different from the book, not even no where near it in some cases. They left out some characters which I think would have been better left in and they left out what makes the books so enjoyable - CHARACTER RELATIONSHIP - in the book Paolini does an awesome job of developing relationships and showing how involved in each others lives they all are.
So yeah it is an ok movie but at the same time I think they did the book an injustice and if they make "Eldest" they are going to have a lot of "splaning" to do, lol. They left out some stuff that is critical to Eldest and making sense.....so I guess we will wait and see what happens.....my husband (Mudslingr - that Dock mentioned) said it was probably that way to save money and see what sort of response they got. Hopefully they will pull out the big guns and do a better job if they do "Eldest". We also hope maybe the DVD will turn out like the LOTR special edition ones and they might go back in and add extra footage to them...that might help out a lot.

I forgot to mention that after our great experience visiting the Corinth Malco Theater it was a very pleasant surprise to go to the car and see an armed guard patrolling the parking lot afoot. The dude meant business too. The large Glock on his side was a good indication he was taking his job seriously!
