Remember the comic book that belonged to Hurley and Walt was reading?
The comic book has talk of illnesses, someone being trapped in unfamiliar territory, polar bears, mind projections. i think the comic book is very important to the story, and it is central to walt's character. i reckon the writers burnt it hoping we would forget about it Some of the same underlying events happen in LOST as happen in the comic book.
For example, the alien's ship crashed onto the planet and he "fell to their world" by accident. Then they took the alien and performed experiments on him. Also, did you notice that the experiment room in the comic book looks almost identical to the computer room in LOST? There are several references to "the other" in the comic book. And besides the polar bear, there seem to be characters that resemble Claire and Locke in the book as well. The producers of LOST have said that the key to the show is "right before our eyes." What else is right before our eyes, but a book? Now, I don't think that Walt is knowingly imposing his powers onto the survivors' circumstance, but I do think that his mind is having an impact regardless.

ABC will launch a global interactive game based on the hit TV show "Lost," the network announced Monday.
Details, however, are about as mysterious and convoluted as the plot of the island castaway drama. The "Lost Experience" will be Internet-based and will feature a parallel story line that is not part of the TV show.
It will begin May 2 in the United Kingdom, May 3 in the U.S. and May 6 in Australia. There is no winning prize, but the experience will offer clues that could unlock some of the island's many secrets.
"It's like a giant, worldwide mysterious jigsaw puzzle that will come to life for all the world to solve," Mike Benson, senior vice president of marketing for ABC Entertainment, said in a statement.
What is known about the challenge is that it includes the introduction of new characters and the mysterious Hanso Foundation. The first clue requires finding a toll-free number that will be released during the show or commercial breaks.
Clues will vary by continent, so participants will benefit from coordinating their information. ABC said the game is designed to appeal to both fans and people unfamiliar with "Lost."
I'm going to play this game.
