From the Clarion Ledger:
Meth act limits cold meds to customers
Gov. Haley Barbour will sign the Methamphetamine Reduction Act today.
House Bill 607 limits a customer to two packages of cold medicine, or no more than 6 grams.
Pharmacists must place the medicine either behind the counter, in a locked cabinet, within 30 feet of cashiers or under video surveillance.
Cold medicines containing ephedrine and pseudophedrine — the main ingredients in meth — are affected.
What do you think? TWD

Things may slow down for a short while, but a crystal meth user is going to get what he/she wants, and at anyone else's expense but their own. mercyme!

i like the idea somewhat but makes me think some..... like mercy said, dealers/users will still get what they want.
understand, i WANT meth to go away. (not gonna happen i know)
now, if these pills are supposedly harder to obtain, how many minimum wage workers will buy/sell pills throughout the day (or even steal some). sell the stolen pills at a mark up.
really, imo, the only way to really combat drug abuse it to start getting tougher with penalties. quit letting them off too easy. quit ignoring some sellers b/c of "who they are".

This won't slow them down one bit, the state has already been "asking" retailers to limit the quantities they sold for years. The dealers are just going to hit more stores.
They are going to make "real" Sudafed available by prescription only soon. The OTC stuff will be almost worthless. This will make people have to double dose because a regular dose won't do a thing for them.
If you take away those ingredients, the dealers will experiment with other stuff that's not controlled until they find a substitute and then the govt will want to control something else and so on.
One of I disagreeociates used to do Extasy until he started dealing it and saw what was in it, stuff like Drano and crap. They will start putting even weirder stuff in it to make meth and kill a lot of people until they figure it out.

Limiting how much OTC medicine one can buy will do nothing.Much of the meth comes from out of state,so people making meth in this area will only go across state lines to buy what they need.

No matter what's done, people who want their fix will get it somehow. They'll probably try to alter the formula and come up with something even worse.

I agree with all of you somewhat. The trade will slow down but then they will find other things to get that high. Crystal meth is running rampage thru Mississippi. I don't think with holding the ingrediants is the answer. They will go to another state and get what they need. And bring it right back and continue making it. When a "master chef" is caught they are slapped on the hand and released in a short while. A year is no time and they are out ,swearing they wouldn't ever touch the stuff all the time looking for ways to get that high back. I don't know if you can truly be cured from crystal meth habit. It ruins families and communities. It is in every town in Mississippi (I bet) and in every community. People that you wouldn't of ever thought are hooked on it and stealing for their habit. Some work hard at real jobs so they can afford it. But after they are hooked (and some get hooked after one time) they will do anything for it. I know of people who quit caring about everyone and everything to get that high. They say some people will not sleep for a week at a time. I don't know the "true" side effects from this drug except folks get mighty poor looking and they get an attitude of not caring. So I'm for anything that might slow the meth users down.
