I just read an article in the paper that says the City of Tupelo is going to vote on banning Pitbulls from inside the city limits. Does anyone besides me think this is utterly retarded? I own a pitbull and he is the most docile, loving dog I've ever had. I've seen chihuahs meaner than he is.
To me it sounds like some people just like to pregnant dog and because of that we're all going to be punished. Hmm... smoking ban anyone?
What they should do is round up the mean dogs and get rid of them. Not just pitbulls, but all dogs. Besides Pitbulls aren't genetically mean. They're taught to be mean. And the people that teach them to be mean need to be punished too.

It seems as though the city is churning out "bans" now. Many people do not say anything about the "bans" they propose until it affects them.
As I said in the smoking ban, government has no business getting into the people's business, and I mentioned that soon they will be telling homeowners what they can do inside their own homes. Here it starts with a "pit bull" ban. What will be next?
Look out folks, if they adopt the international building code, we will all be in trouble. Maybe they already did and we didn't know it.

Pit Bull attacks happen because People are irresponsible and ignorant. Why punish an animal that has no voice, had no choice for the way he was raised or the home he was placed in? ANY dog will bite/attack/kill if it trained to do so from birth or for that matter NOT trained how to behave properly around humans.
If the city council thinks a breed ban is going to fix all their problems then they need to take off the rose colored glasses and see the world in real light. What we need is a crack down on disgusting criminals who participate in dog fighting, education and training programs for the general public, and regulation on breeders.

The only time I have ever been bitten by a dog was last year. My mom's fury little beast bolted out her front door and bit my shin. I don't know the breed but I'm sure it is Islamic. It hates me because I exist.

Obviously, dogs are evil, and perhaps little terrorists in disguise, as you eloquently pointed out King Rat.
I hope this is just the start. I for one am for banning all cats. Many people suffer from allergies due to these pesky animals. My friend has three cats, fat, long fur, little Jihadists. I am convinced they conspire my demise everytime I am over at his house. They get under my feet while I am walking trying to make me bludgeon my head on a desk, they rub their long fur on my leg and when the AC comes on it wafts it toward my sensitive nasal passages. People carry that fur with them into Grocery Stores, Restaurants, Bars, etc. It's not fair for us non-cat people to have to suffer so.
Please Ban Cats in Tupelo. I believe if we could all just get used to giving up some of our personal freedoms and let the Wonderful Council of 9 do all of our thinking for us, we could all be a much happier community.

I know TF will no longer be my friend if he sees this, but I agree with the banning of cats... They are evil (and they get hair all over the place)!

I hate cats. I always have. Not because I'm alergic to them or anything... I just don't t like them. At all. Stupid animals.

As long as LeeRoy remains out of my yard he's safe from my /supposedly/ ferocious and dangerous pitbull.
Who'm I kidding... Dozer would probably lick him and love on him. He might be a pitbull but he's the most lovable dog I've ever owned.

Hahaha Ok I am laughing so hard from all of these posts. Mom of 3 - I know what you mean; I am beginning to fear for the safety of my Wyatt and Chester. (Orange American shorthairs) lol! Crimson - If Dozer does ever lick a cat PLEASE take a picture...that would be hilarious. I grew up around Pit's and they are very loving dogs. I think that is one reason why I think this breed ban is totally stupid. Yep, I said it, STUPID. On a more serious note - If anyone is in the market for a pet please consider the shelter. I have been volunteering on the weekends and they have so many animals that need good homes. Check out their website for more info. www.tupelo-leehumane.org/

The Top Reasons Why You Can't Trust Vicious Pit Bulls 10. They will steal your spot on the couch while you are up getting a soda.
9. They will take the treat you give them and bury in the back yard like a paranoid crack head hiding their stash.
8. They will jump on your bed with muddy feet. Making you do laundry...again
7. They will lick visitors with an uncontrolled passion only they understand.
6. They will cause children to smile.
5. They will make you feel horrible for not walking them by looking at you with deep sad eyes.
4. They will look at you like you committed a crime against them if you don't let them lick your ice cream bowl.
3. They will cause wide spread happiness in large group settings.
2. They will crack you up by shaking their butts so hard you think they are going to snap in half.
And the number one reason why you can't trust vicious Pit Bulls...
1. They will steal your heart like a thief in the night, showing you complete and pure love that only a Pit Bull can show.

So, the purpose of banning is to restrict freedom of having, hearing, or doing something... right? Restricting the people from having a pit bull is going under the assumption that the pit bull may have the potential of frothing mouths and complete change of temperment and attack a person, perhaps a weaker one like the elderly or children. I know that it does happen, at times, but it is not restricted to pits. The next thing we know is the restriction of German Shepherds, Labradors, Chows, etc. All of these dogs are also protector dogs, which in time of attack these dogs will run to the aid of their masters.
Watch if folks, a lot of talk is going around about banning guns. Why in the UK, they are even banning butcher knives and pocket knives. In the recent past, the UK had "Knife Amnesty Day" where people "voluntarily" turned in their knives and other "weapons" so that they would not be prosecuted in the future when the ban took effect. What's up with this banning stuff?

Let's see... dogs that have bitten me in my 38 years on this earth....1 Dalmation..1 Eskimo Spitz... 1 Boston Terrier...1 Basset Hound... and about 12 Chihuahuas (Damn little ankle biters) but, never by a pit bull. I own 3 of them at present and have owned 11 pits over the years. I have been around countless pit bulls in my life owned by friends and others. NEVER ONCE have any of them tried to bite me. It is because of irresponsible owners, dimwitted media and stupid idiots that bring this wonderful breed into the spotlight of negative attention. 1. Irresponsible owners- the ownership of a pit bull mandates a much higher responsibility than any other breed. A pit bull MUST be contained to a restricted environment at all times..ie.- fenced yard, tie down, kennel run etc. This is a breed of dog that CANNOT be let free to roam it's merry way. It has been bred through centuries to be the top fighting dog therefore when a irresponsible owner lets one run free, odds are that there will sooner or later be a dogfight. And if the dogfight involves a breed other than a pit bull, the end result probably will not be a pretty sight. Even though it is a pit bull, that does not mean that ALL pits will fight with other dogs. Some will behave much like everyday dogs. But, because of the breed, caution must be kept at all times when pit bulls come in contact with other dogs. Cursing a Pit bull for fighting makes as much sense as cursing a Labrador Retriever for bringing the ball back. 2. THE MEDIA (what a frickin joke they are) Whenever there is a story about a dog attack, the media almost always says it is a pit bull. Fact of the matter is that most people CANNOT tell the difference between a true pit and the many kinda-looks-like-a-pit breeds. Take this test www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findpit.html and see if you can spot the real pit bull. I got it right the first time, but I have been around them most all my life. The media is more than happy to report on a pit bull attack (whether it actually was a pit or not) because of the shock factor. If a mule kicks the crap out of someone, that is not a story. If a Pit bull or similar looking dog bites someone, it's front page headlines. Statistics show that, across the dog breeds, a pit scores very high on the American Temperament Test Society scores www.atts.org/ I am not saying that no Pit bull will bite. On the contrary, ANY dog is capable of biting. I am just saying that a pit bull is not likely to bite under normal circumstances. And now to number 3. STUPID IDIOTS- there is a subhuman species out there that think because they own a Pit bull it increases their already pathetic state of "macho". These retards got the dog, not for the loving companion they are, but to fight with other IDIOT'S pit bulls. They got these dogs, not for the wonderful family pet they can be, but to train them to attack people. Aggression against people IS NOT a normal trait in a Pit bull. The human aggressive trait has been removed from the breed through selective breeding. It's like this, through years of dogfighting, the handler's have always been in the pit with the dogs along with the referee. They wanted only the dogs biting each other and not the people in the pit. Therefore any dog that showed "people aggression" was killed on the spot or never bred to pass on this trait. I am not a dog fighter myself nor do I condone it. I am merely speaking of officially sanctioned events which abide by strict guidelines of pit bull fighting where NO dog dies in the fight. These stupid IDIOTS that have NO CLUE about dogfighting and think that the fights should be only to the brutal death of one or both dogs is what makes me so sick. BAN THE OWNER, NOT THE DOG!! is what i say about the lowlife scum that gives my beloved breed a bad name. As far as the pit bull ban goes, whatever... we can't stop the Hitler wannabes called the Tupelo 9. But, I will end on this, ANYBODY who wants to mess with my FAMILY MEMBERS (yes my pits are part of the family) does not have to worry about my pit bulls, they have got ME to contend with!!!!! And I am a hell of a lot more dangerous than a Pit bull. I am going to bed now. That is if I can get my 3 pit bulls to let me share the bed with them.

Gobud8.... thank you so much for saying all that. Dozer is the first pitbull we've owned and he's a little over a year old now. Just starting to fill out. He's the most docile, loving dog I've ever owned. He lays at my feet and watches TV with me. He lays on the floor with my son and just, for lack of a better term, cuddles up to him.
Now... he can get agressive... but there's only one thing that I've seen cause it. My son. He is protective of my son. He doesn't growl or bite or snap or anything like that. But he will put himself between my son and another person and just stand there menacingly. He won't even show his teeth... you're just now allowed to touch the boy if you're not me or my wife. And I like that.
