I haven't had any dealings with the good sheriff on lawful issues, but more business matters of families I help and I have not been impressed at all with him. I saw him treat an attorney like chit the other day while he was trying to see his client. He had an audience so he "showed out" a bit for the crowd.

JIM JOHNSON!!!! He is a great person. I have known him for 20+ years. If he has had to be harsh at times it is because that job calls for it at times. Walk a week in his shoes, deal with what he deals with on a daily basis. That job calls for a tough person with a backbone and Jim Johnson does an outstanding job. Not only does he do a good job he is a wonderful Christian!!

i really can't decide on JJ. i've heard really good things, some not quite so good things. i've only met him once, informally... and he was nice for the 5 seconds i was around him. (not enough to gather an opinion of him).
he seems a tad too close to some other elected officials that i'm very leery of... that makes me wonder a bit about JJ. also, some feel JJ and HRP were out to "get" each other before HRPs death... supposedly they were out to expose some stuff on each other. who knows how much of that is true.
then again, he may be the best man that runs. i'm really unsold on him either way right now.

OK let me be the first to say, "WE need NEW Blood" in that Dept. Preferably Big City. Don't get me wrong, Tupelo is becoming a Bigger City and should be Lead by someone with Years of Experience. Not a Small Town Cop. JMO- Z/Z I'm with you, UNSOLD. I look at this and think "Why keep Small Town Leadership" when we want Tupelo to Grow? And if there is so many Problem's with Morality, and Dis-Trust. Why not get someone with the experience to make this a better force? Someone whom is Used to the "Power of Leadership". BUTT- with not having any better Choices, I guess we Could do Worse than J/J........ At lease he did give the LCSO a better Reputation.....

At lease he did give the LCSO a better Reputation..... i agree DS. lee county could definitely do worse than JJ. i'd kinda like to see someone from out of the area move in and run... someone not connected to the "status quo". JD Sanders (former columbus police chief) would be a good choice if he'd attempt it. that's doubtful since he's moved to TN now. JDS came to columbus and was far from afraid of challenging the other powers while trying to get the job done.

JD Sanders would be a great choice. As far as JJ being a good christian (don't remember who said it) but would say if that is how christians act and treat others, then I want no part of that brand of christianity, sorry.

Can you be more specific about what it is JJ has done to tick you off? You can even change the names to protect the innocent (or might that be the guilty?).

What we think in the Corporate City Limits of Tupelo matters not when it comes to electing the Sherriff. Time and time again their are far more votes for a particular candidate that comes outside our City. What I'm saying is that fewer people within the Tupelo City Limits vote for a particular candidate, than people living in the County or in another incorporated area.

Now if T/F runs Whom is gonna take care of our forums? ;D Why, you could be TF's right hand man DS. You could run the forums while TF is out battling crime. ;D You would do very well under TF's direction. But one thing, we would not want Granny to be out of a job so would this be 2 separate positions?

Being from Pontotoc, my dog hunts in a different scope of woods so I can't vote for any of them.

also, some feel JJ and HRP were out to "get" each other before HRPs death... supposedly they were out to expose some stuff on each other. who knows how much of that is true. The only dealings I ever saw on Mr. Johnson was how he dealt with a family member, whose child was a victim of a murder. It wasn't nice. But, it happened when he was a deputy, many years ago and I got the feeling that he was following HRP's orders at the time. Perhaps he did not like some of HRP's ways of doing things? I don't know. But I do know that since he got into office, some of the more "dangerous" deputy's that was under HRP are now gone. And I considered them dangerous because a few of them felt that they were above the law and could do anything they wanted to do. My dealings with any deputy since then has been only once or twice but they were very helpful and courteous. That is a plus and a reflection of the leadership. People say that the moral of a business or department in a business reflects upon what kind of leadership they have.

well for starters.......there was a 15 year old incarcerated in HIS jail (and he will know you know real quick it is HIS jail) who ran from the police so he had to pay. His punishment was he was shoved into a wall, door shut on him, no bed, no socks, no blanket, no pillow, no clothes, no books, no contacts, nothing except a paper gown on a cold concrete floor. His theory; bet he won't run no more. This was a mother's child mind you.
Then, there was the boy, around 19, who got attacked in HIS jail and he fought back and ended up breaking his wrist. He begged for medical treatment for 3 days, and it wasn't until his parents threatened lawsuit and lawyers before he was taken to the doctor. Again, a mother's child hurt with a broken bone, not so much as an aspirin.
Then there was the man brought back from Parchman for a hearing, whom JJ had sworn "to get" and when his attorney went to see him JJ grabbed the 70 year old atty by the neck and physically threw him out of HIS jail, because he promised the man would not get out. When it was taken to the judge, the judge said well it is HIS jail.
Then there was the drunk man who ran from the cops. There was a small chase that never got over 40 mph, and when he was arrested, in cuffs back at the jail, he was told to spread his legs, he did, but evidently not enough so he met JJ's flashlight upside the head several times. (This was in Verona)
Then there was the elderly, disabled scared lady who talked to him about receiving harassing phone calls, and his answer to her was just hang up, I got more important things on my plate.
Not to mention that you can't talk to him for being insulted and ridiculed unless you are in his clique. He is arrogant, mean and nasty to people, especially if you are trying to help an inmate or family of an inmate.
