Who do want for sheriff in the next election?From what I have heard,there are three people in the race.They are Jim Johnson,Marty Rock,and Ronnie Bourroughs(sp?).I know two that I don't want and I don't know much about the other one.Does anyone have any input on this?

You know, I really like Jim Johnson, so I would vote for him if I lived in this county.

LOL at DS. Thanks for the warning on Mr. Jones. Yeah, as of this date, I think Mr. Johnson has done ok for Lee. County. I may just vote for him. I don't know anything about the other two. Far too often we think we want a change and we get a whole lot worse. Look at what we voted in last month.  I am rethinking a lot of things I used to think I thought. |

Ronnie Burroughs and Marty Rock both served as deputies under Harold Ray Presley..Burroughs was a shift Sgt....
on a side note, Janet Burroughs (Ronnie's wife) was Harold Ray's personal secretary.
Dunno what they have been doing recently

Burroughs is stiil a deputy.Marty Rock run some kind of business;plumbing I think.I don't know what else she does but Janet is with a gospel group and Ronnie is their sound man.

I wouldn't vote for J. Barney Johnson if he was the only one on the ballot. He is mean, arrogant, smartbutt and is ugly and nasty to everyone in his path. Power does not become him.

I have to agree.He is not like he was when he was a deputy.He was very good in our time of crisis.Power must have changed him. |

Not too long ago I overheard Johnson reaming out one of his jailers for violating the rights of an inmate in order to appease a bail bondsman (they released the inmate on bond then turned around and threw the inmate back into her cell at the request of the bonding company). While I'm sure that jailer thought he was being "mean" and "nasty", I thought he was being a pretty good sheriff.

I agree KR. I haven't dealt with him alot and never on the wrong side of the law, but I think he does okay as a sherriff. I know that I've heard alot of stuff about Harold Ray being crooked and taking pay-off's, (Don't know if that's true or not) and I've never heard anything like that about J.J.

And just when I thought we might be shed of the Presleys, I heard on the radio the other day that Brandon Presley is going to run for Bo Robinson's Public Service Commission seat (Bo is retiring).
