My Rant- Smoking BAN.........

Hello, this is My RANT, concerning the "Smoking Ban". Just my 2 cent's if you may.

Everyone said this is over Health Issue's, Correct? Well it seem's to me that if this was Only over Health Issue's. Then we would have been given choice's! But we were not given a choice at All. Other than NO. See if the Leader's were concerned with the Growth of Tupelo, they would of Added Guide-Line's for cage's for Only Smoker's and Smoking. The Owner's of Bar's Etc would have a Chance for Future Growth. But we were not, with you having to Leave the Building to go Smoke. Not Only doe's that give the LAW another reason to "Question YOU" but it will Re-Open the ole Bar Fighting Problem that All Bar's Used to Have regularly... Or the City to Stick the Small Business's Again with making them hire "Off Duty POLICE Officer's" to pull Security, Only another BURDEN on the Owner. Whom is already stretched Financially.
Just a thought anyway.

Now if we were given choice's other than "NO", maybe thing's would of been better. And the city leader's wouldn't look so closed minded.

I concur. I chainsmoke. where's MY rights? How come the nonsmokers get their way and i don't? If they want to make indoors nonsmoking,fine by me. But 25ft from the business? NO. I'm not walking out into the middle of the damn highway to smoke.
Because of this ban,i also won't be going to any bars. When i have a drink,i want a smoke with it.

It's like they don't wanna die or something. sheesh..we're ALL gonna die,and most of us before our time. I hope i'm exhaling smoke when my time comes.

ohh one more thing.. it's known that sex is also dangerous to ones health,with diseases running amuck and all,yet everyone seems to enjoy it.
I wish there was a way to put a ban on sex for nonsmokers so they can see how rediculous this ban on smoking is.

As someone on both sides of this fence, I think I can be a bit objective. I only smoke the occasional clove or cigar. My husband is highly sensitive to smoke and I'm MORE than happy to go outside to smoke out of respect for him.

On the smoking ban issue, I think it should be banned from public places but I agree with skitz that 25 feet away from the building is a bit much!

It's the 25 foot away from an entrance thing that gets me. That's just f'ing rediculous. I'm a smoker. Almost a chain smoker. Out of respect for my wife, who is a non-smoker, I do not smoke in our house. I go outside. And, really, I could do the same thing when out in public.... but this 25 foot thing is just stupid.

You can't change stupidity. Forget the politics for a moment, we get it, it's politically correct to ban smoking. Anti-Smokers have ZERO facts to back their claim up. All the studies that have been done thus far show no statitistical evidence that second hand smoke is bad for anyone including children, and people with asthma. You heard me right, there is no proff smoking causes asthma, although there is resounding proof laughing causes asthma, go figga.

Also, studies that have been done show statitiscally that children who are aroun d adults that smoke are LESS likely to get lung cancer. The news media buries these studies and the general public, does not know about them. The EPA study that anti-smokers nazi's point to has been debunked so many times. They used bad metrics, not even close to a large enough sample, rejected any findings that did NOT produce the result they wanted, and was a report on studies that others had done. The EPA did not even do their own research, they just analyzed what other people had done.

Again, there is NO PROOF whatsoever that second-hand smoke poses ANY KIND OF HEALTH RISK! A HUGE german study of airline flight attendees (on flights that smoke) showed that flight attendants had no increased risk of lung cancer being exposed to second smoke for 8 years, 8 to 10 hours per day. Again, the news media buries these studies.

Now back to politics, it is politically fashionable to become the anti-smoking police. It is a shame that our Council people cannot see they have been played, like much of America. Smoking is a small thing, but it's yet another liberty stripped away by pure ignorance and stupidity.

You nailed it, TF. The council passed a law out of ignorance and stupidity. And why 25 foot? Why not 35? Or 15? Some businesses will have to force their employees to smoke in the frigging street in order to get 25 feet from the front door.

A co-worker had a good idea yesterday. Since some employees here use a smoking area that will soon be in violation of the law but is completely sealed from outside eyes, he (jokingly, of course) suggested waiting until one of them starts smoking after the law goes into effect then spray them with pepper spray and call 911. I mean, heck, they will be breaking the law and endangering the lives of all those around them. So, folks, every time you see someone violating the smoking law just call 911.

K/R, you got a Good Point. Why Not show them How Stupid this is. I'm Calling 911 the Day it Start's.

FYI- I'm all for putting "Smoking OUTSIDE" away from the people. But with the way they have it we cannot ADD a place for Smoker's. And That's what hurt's. No Half way point for anyone, from Anyone...
