i've not yet heard of a case where second hand smoke caused cancer. not saying it couldn't happen though. i'm just pissed about MY RIGHT to inhale my sweet sweet tobacco whenever i want. If i can't light up when i want, you shouldn't be able to kiss when you want, cause i find kissing in public disgusting, and it causes MONO and oral yeast infections and herpes and a slew of other diseases. I just find all this rediculous. I can't wait to go to jail for smoking. I'll take that pooh all the way to the supreme court and sue the state for violating my rights. Free country my a**

My Goodness! Do we have anger issues King?...Just because I disagree and offer a differing opinion I am an (in your words) A-hole....what do you do if your wife or girlfriend disagrees with you? ....I shudder to think what you say to them....BTW, do you also eat with that mouth? No anger issues here, pNc. Just a comment. If you are going to call another member's comments ignorant and stupid why don't you take the time to offer up your reasoning WHY you find them so. Instead of just "bling blang I'm done" or whatever it was you said. Very immature, I thought. But, as my original comment said, it seems that every forum has to have at least one.....

We all agree that smoking CAN cause cancer, right?...If so, how can second hand smoke not be harmful?....Do our lungs filter out the toxins? BZZZT...WRONG!...Thanks for playing, here's your toaster....next topic, I'm done with this one! Scientists have tried their darndest to link second-hand smoke to cancer but they haven't. It isn't the smoke, necessarily, but the tar and other chemicals a smoker inhales. But that is besides the issue. The issue here is whether or not the government should impose a one-size-fits-all template on everyone. A privately owned business should have the right to decide if its patrons (or employees) have the right to smoke. Let capitalism work. If there were a consumer demand for non-smoking bars and pool halls someone would build them. If enough people demand a smoke-free resturant the businessmen would flock to meet the need. But you do demonstrat a very key difference between liberals and conservatives - not that one or the other hasn't been arrested, but the fact that liberals want the government to make our decision for us and conservatives want the government to stick to protecting our borders and enforcing our Constitution.

There is more than enough ignorance and stupidity to go around. You can disagree with me, but I can back up my claims with facts. Produce facts that show second hand smoke causes lung cancer. Produce facts that second hand smoke even increases risks of lung cancer. I know you cannot. Because there is none.
I can show you a very solid fact that peronal choices and civil liberties are being stripped away at every turn in the guise of imporving public health.

TFA******Sorry to burst your bubble but showing a website that agrees with you is not proof of anything.......I can build a website that says second hand smoke kills more than car wrecks....Doesn't mean it's true.... and King rat you say it's the tar, etc that a smoker inhales that causes cancer.....uh, er..don't they also EXHALE?

Of course, pNc, a smoker exhales but do they exhale the tar or does that substance stay in their mouths and throat and lungs? Supposing they do exhale some tar; Does it remain airborne as long as the smoke or are it's molecules heavier, causing it to settle to the ground quicker? I don't know and neither do you.
Again, scientists have been trying to prove that second hand smoke causes cancer and they have been unable to do so. I don't know if it does or doesn't.
Personally, I don't like breathing second-hand smoke. If I eat with a smoker I let them decide if we sit in the smoking or non-smoking (unless my kids are with me). As long as the smoke doesn't drift into my face it doesn't bother me. If it does I ask them to move it.
Never have I been in a non-smoking section of a resturant and been bothered by smoke from the smoking section.
But most importantly, I would NEVER assume that my own personal preference not to smoke gives me the right to impose that onto an entire population. Let the government ban it in government buildings and let private business owners make the decisions in their own business.

Peasandcarrots....there is more information out there, I just posted that ONE website because it combines multiple sources that I have personally reviewed about the information. Like KR said and I have stated in other posts. There is no proof that second hand smoke causes lung cancer.....period! Show me one bit of scientific evidence to the contrary, and I'll reconsider, if the testing methodology is sound. In other words, it is thoroughly documented and published for the scientific community to digest. I am not a scientist, obviously, but I can read, and there is FAR more research into why they cannot prove it, than any actual substansive facts showing otherwise.
It is not just my claim, nor that website, read the scientific sources yourself. Just because you choose to believe what is spoonfed to you through the media does not make it so.

I can show you a very solid fact that peronal choices and civil liberties are being stripped away at every turn in the guise of imporving public health. TF Yep and to add to that, if anybody thinks that it is going to stop at public smoking, they better think again. There is evidence out there that soon the powers that be will be micromanaging the food intake we have. That means that there will be repercussions for overweight people who eat fatty foods and desserts. It will be forbidden for heavy folks to eat these things because insurance companies will not want to pay for the illnesses that is attributed to fat folks. Yeah, if people do any reading at all, they will see that Americans are already labled the "fattest people on earth". beam me up scotty! On a more humerous note. Can you imagine those booming voices at the WAlly World exit that says when you snuck a gallon of ice cream past it's sensors: I'M SORRY BUT YOU ARE FORBIDDEN TO BUY SUBSTANCES OF HIGH CALORIC INTAKE. PLEASE RETURN TO THE SERVICE DESK FOR YOUR REFUND. REPEAT: YOU ARE FORBIDDEN TO BUY SUBSTANCES OF HIGH CALORIC INTAKE....

It's rediculous the way we ASK the government to interfere. We are becoming a more socialist republic by the minute. It's just rediculous. Smoking is such a small thing, but every small thing will eventually lead to big things, and that's when it's too late. Democracy goes flying out the window.
Why can't the market take care of this? It's simple, we use our pocketbook by not visiting places that allow smoking. They lose business, they stop letting people smoke in their place of buisiness, and the market has affected change. End of Story.
